Viou's ban is not a decision to make hastily, Richard

Once Viou compiles proof of other sellers engaging in these types of morally dubious trades (and we all know all the major gold sellers do, or they wouldnt be competitive major gold sellers, before we even see the proof), you'll have a moral dilemma on your hands with three different outcomes:
1. Take the idealistic high ground, but ban all the gold sellers, lose more hits, lose revenue. lose your comparative advantage, etc...
2. Keep Viou banned, but fail to ban the other major gold sellers
3. Unban Viou

I'm not recommending one option over another (although I would consider 2 the most morally reprehensible)

 

Out of those 3 options I would prefer 1. It wouldn't be all the gold sellers and I think he's established he doesn't want anyone on the website doing that kind of shit.

 

I do not believe Viou's attempt was to blackmail, even though one will be more willing to leverage when the chips are down, as in his case. He was stating the (sad) fact that many of the major gold sellers have dubious methods of obtaining their gold. Even if they don't, by sheer volume of trades, they most likely have bought stolen property or received stolen currency, sometimes willingly, and sometimes with a blind eye.

I am interested, what do you define as a "stolen good"?
If someone scams in game, is that then stolen gold?
If someone abuses a bug to generate copious amounts of GP, is that then stolen gold?

 

Quick question;

If someone is permanently banned on Sythe, and they continue to sell gold to merchants via msn/skype or whatever and the merchant knows that this individual is banned, would you consider that as ban worthy? Just curious.

 

I'm pretty sure every single large seller is guilty of this as a large Chinese trader was banned at some point and everyone traded with them anyway.

 

Grave you're afraid you're going to come close to getting banned by the precedent set by Viou's ban and you're building up a defense. You made a thread on it quickly, with two goals in mind. You hoped to build up a moral, sympathetic position where you clearly state you have always taken every precaution to avoid dubious trades (of course!). Your second objective was to implicate other gold sellers as having made dubious trades, specifically R2P as he tried to have you banned in the past.

I dont care if you read my post. Viou invested a lot of time into being a member of this site, and his ban's fairness and the precedent it sets are going to be demanded by the community, no matter what you choose to read.
Are you next in line? Probably not, definite knowledge GP being stolen property is very hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt, as you, Richard, and I all know.

The point I was trying to flush out with the last post (that you apparently didnt read) is that Viou claims he only accepted goods stolen in-game. While I dont believe that, just as I dont believe you have never made dubious trades, the fact of the matter still stands that he did not admit to knowingly trading out-of-game stolen goods, and therefore should not be banned unless evidence is presented he did so.
On the other hand, if Richard says knowingly trading in-game stolen goods is also a bannable offense, Viou should remain banned, but that opens up a-whole-nother can of worms.

Lol. I've deleted my posts. All I'm saying is that everyone on this site has at least once dealt with scammed/hacked goods directly or indirectly. That's all.

Probably a bad time to bring it up though. No need to make it personal lol, I was commentating on a situation. Albeit badly worded.

Anyway, PM me if you want to discuss it more, I feel like you took it the wrong way, I'll explain my rationale, and you explain yours. I do realize you're just upholding your moral standards/what you feel is right, so I feel bad now. Sorry.
