Disable e-mail recovery for sythe.org accounts

Why do have have it enabled anyway?

^I'm talking about this; Leading cause of members getting hacked, with the good old method of finding old, inactive members, hoping for their hotmail to be reset, recreating the e-mail, recovering the account then scamming.

I am seeing more and more inactive members 'coming back' and scamming.

This should be disabled...

Range Me (Kevin)'s account scammed at least 50M and $60 and would scam more, if he had the chance, and I'm nearly certain he was hacked, as he is now using a different e-mail from the one I talked to him back in the days I knew him.

We have the password recovery forum anyway, so why do we need the lost password function?

I'm sure it would take more than this to stop the hackers.

It may counter against a few of them, support.

Reasons for the hack are due to hotmail exploits. But yea, it does lead back to this. However, I don't support.

 

Yeah but at the end of the day, with the hotmail exploit, they get their e-mail; The hacked hotmails alone will not grant you access to sythe.org accounts, now will they?
We also have the account recovery forum specifically for this.
Also, why no support? Mind to elaborate?

The Account Recovery Section is a last resort section when other methods have failed. The staffers shouldn't have to take care of a mountain of account recoveries because people have hotmail accounts that get attacked and exploited. There has been numerous announcements concerning the weakness and vulnerabilities of hotmail and if people continue to use them then we can't help it. The argument to that point is, what about old accounts being hacked? Usually those are caught fairly fast, because if someone hasn't made a post in 3 years something is really suspicious and it doesn't take long to run and ipcheck.

So essentially your suggestion is inefficient and will create more problems than it solves. When you're thinking of a suggestion you have to think of everything that could be included.

 

Removing it would be good. Even if an msn is hacked, without the sythe account, they have no way to confirm verification if asked by a client.

 

Support. If it could stop people from getting scammed, why not.

 

Support if people need their accounts recovered there is a section just post in that.

 

Support. Make them use the account recovery section on sythe so you can do an i.p check etc. Would increase safety and maybe stop the problem of members being hacked, scamming and being left with a huge debt.

Users with account that are inactive after a year should be disabled.

Then, add in a recovery question method, users that can't answer the questions are just fucked.

 

No support, the system is fine. Discourage display of one's e-mail, discourage use of hotmail.

 

Denied, the recovery system isn't the main reason for hackings. It's exploits and such.
