Trying to get an understanding of coding and programming games, what would one use to code or programme a high graphics game like world of warcraft?

You'd have a better chance learning C# + XNA. It's actually feasible to start learning C# and how to make games at the same time, as where learning C++ at the same time as game development will just give you a headache.

Also, you can do this in pretty much any language. Just so you're aware, the detail of a game doesn't really depend on its code so much as the polygon models and textures you make outside of the IDE.
