Govind / Other admin(s)

12-12-2012 I sent Govind a PM regarding the newly added Simba rank.

30-12-2012, 18 days later, I received a PM back.

Now, 25 days later I still haven't received a new PM from him. I send him a reminder and updated my links because my pastebin links with source code expired after 30 days.

In total it has now been 6 weeks since I send him my first PM which is way too long to wait.

On 14-01-2013 I send him my latest PM

If any other admin would like to look into this request, feel free. Or if anyone can let Govind look into it. Thanks.

 

Govind is away this week. Just re-send a reminder when he's back next week.

I don't think people should be allowed to "apply" for fun ranks like that. They're awarded in extremely exceptional cases only.

I've never seen it around but it got added nearly 2 months ago. Was under the impression you could apply for ranks like Java programmer/Simba coder because you actually need to have knowledge for those unlike fun ranks like zombie, chinese man, mudkip and stuff.

That is really sad, but it's true. People shouldn't get punished for being honest. I guess someone who doesn't even script in Simba will end up with the rank eventually, that is how most things around here work.

 

I don't see how being a whiny little bitch over a fun rank and criticizing admins, who work at Sythe free of charge, is "being honest." Fun ranks are pretty much a way for admins to show their gratitude towards certain members, so pissing them off isn't the best way of getting it.

 

I realize they are fun ranks but Java/Simba/PHP programmer ranks do actually have some market value as it shows your knowledge has been recognized. Unlike fun ranks like the mudkip, secret asian man and stuff like that.

I just don't see the point in adding a new rank if it isn't going to be given away anyways. I assumed the Programming ranks mentioned above would be given if enough knowledge would be shown but I was wrong.

Anyone that can't take criticism won't get very far in life.

Anyways, this can be closed as my questions have been answered.

Anyway, it's always worked like that, you proved your programming skills to an admin, he awarded the rank, that's literally how it worked, since forever. I guess the admins are just getting lazier, the programming ranks have never been like the other fun ranks, so comparing them to fun ranks is ridiculous.

 

The programming ranks are technically no longer funranks with the advent of the programming market. The moment you make programming a service, the funrank provides an unfair advantage over people of similar skill who have not tried to get the rank
I say remove programming ranks altogether, it's not really a funrank and it wasn't ever really a funrank tbh

 

Administrators always take forever to reply, this is nothing to new but they are human and have their own lives too.

 

Well we'd need a decision on whether or not Govind has time to do it, if not then it becomes like the other ranks that aren't given out, special and stupid.

When the hell will there ever be an exceptional circumstance with programming ranks? Oh, you got 2000 modscore, here's a Java Programmer rank even though you don't know Java. Congratulations!

If an admin does have time to do it(preferably someone who knows some programming), the programmer who believes he's at an disadvantage can prove himself the same way his competition has.

That analogy is similar to if a guy got a degree in what I do, but some other guy doesn't have one, and the guy without complains that's an unfair advantage. No it's not, he should try to get one too.

 

Isn't it more like they are exactly equal, but one of them has a fancy degree to prove it, while the other person didn't get one because fuck him?

 

No because that analogy isn't based on your premonition of university, anyway it's off-topic, but, in this case, getting one is the exact same for both people, they provide source code, if it's sufficient, they get it. End of story, no tuition, no fucking classes. There's no reason not to attempt to get it, if he got denied then he's obviously not of the same calliber.

Also IDEA:

If it really is that big of an issue for Govind to check the source code, etc. Maybe have a team of programmers, that have general programming language, that can just check it quickly, and give it a thumbs up or thumbs down, then send the approval or disapproval to Govind, or whichever admin wants to head it.

 

Do you think before you type? If everyone could submit then the fact that they didn't have one would mean they AREN'T equal.

 

Actually the programming ranks were awarded to those who contributed their knowledge to the community actively at one point or another. I got mine because I've made several tutorials on VB and replied to almost every single topic in that section at one point to help others out. I also made programs for the community, shared source code, and continue to develop and share my current projects.

That's how you get one.

 

If an admin can't check a PM for source code in 25 days, you think they'd check the programming section for contributors? I guess it would make sense to get it that way back when the programming section was at least a little bit active, but now it's better to go the PM route.
