    Make this guide a sticky!!!

So I have found a way to not only catch an imposter, but have the imposters Sythe account banned as well...

Anyways, most imposters come from Skype correct? Well, from now on if you ever come across an imposter, do NOT let that person know you are on to them. Instead, tell them you are going to call them on Skype to confirm their identity. (If this was something we all did from now on and the user disagres calling they are possibly a scammer anyways.)

Now, once you get them on the phone open your command prompt by going to your start menu and searching for "cmd"

Inside the command prompt you are going to type "netstat-nb" without the quotations..

A list should pop up, scroll through it until you find Skype, next to it will be the person you are talking to and their IP address..

NOW, report the bastard for scamming, with his IP address for Sythe to search their database for, if the user has a registered account, he is now busted.

Be sure to take screen shots of the Skype window call along with the command prompt showing the IP so you have proof you are not setting someone up..

This may not work if you find users that don't have accounts, but this could catch a lot of people..

obviously this guide should be re-written before making it a sticky, but I would like credit haha!

Most imposters are smart enough not to use Skype voice call. Besides they know they don't have the proof that they are really the person they are impostering so they're even more unlikely to pick up.

Another point to consider is that the person who is impostering is -

Not registered on here or is banned
    Is on a VPN
Using Skype via a different location

A better method to grab the IP would be to give them a web link for example to a site you own or to a page on here, a mod could run an IP check and see if there's any matches. But bear in mind it is extremely easy to ban evade these days.

People are better off trying to educate users on how not to fall for scams rather than trying to stop the scammers directly.

Very good points, BUT. Even if this doesnt become a sticky, its good for others to know about this. You have to think that most scammers come here with only the intention of scamming, so they don't read any rules, sticky topics, or things like that. They just try to find the quickest sucker possible. If someone can catch them off guard, they can kill two birds with one stone =)

    Something to think about!

Everybody knows you can snag IP's off of skype. This is why i dont like to use it, sorry to break news but this isnt anything new.

I wouldnt skype with some random kid. Especially for a trade, lots of people will dox and or DDOS people (just read the dispute forum) also i dont even have a cam on this comp. Does that make me sketchy or a fucking scammer ? I think not.

You are just telling people how to start DOXING people you THINK are scammers (doxing btw is against sythe rules, see rules). The fact is if you dont get scammed the most you could do (without blatant admissions ect) is ask for them to get a twc.

Hey, nobody said you were a 'fucking' scammer partner. And it has nothing to do with looking for people that you 'think' are scammers or imposters. In the guide it says when you have found an imposter... So, say your Skype is 'dickhead.sythe' but someone is using a skype named dickhead_sythe and you see that it is a fake, YOU ALREADY KNOW it is a scammer.

Then its all about getting that scammer to give up his IP... Also, you wouldn't need a cam on your computer because I have just confirmed you can do this if they are screen sharing with you as well.... You can request they screen share to prove the code worked...

Some other points you made did make sense, but this method can catch imposters, not ALL of them, but some. And that helps.

I don't use Skype as it's the most unsafe, with all the viruses etc.

I'm old school - it's all about MSN.

Just give a staff member the imposter Skype and we can find out if they have a Sythe account.
