Help Understand Powerbot's Problems.

What exactly is the problem? I understand that they say the bot's "hooks" are broken. But what ARE hooks? Why are scripts updated since the EoC working if its a problem with the bot and not the scripts?

I only have a very general understanding of Java bots, but bla bla bla the RS client is obfuscated (so they have to deobfuscate it in order to read the code/make the code work for the bot).
After each update, the obfuscation changes, so they need deobfuscate to get the hooks working again.
Hooks (VERY LOOSELY) tell the bot what 'things are' aka IDs, Menus/Interfaces, Map Tiles etc.

You're kind of talking about 2 problems.

1: After any update, devs need to deobfuscate and get updated hooks. This (if you have a very good updater) should be pretty easy, and usually takes a few days MAXIMUM.

2: After EoC, RS itself changed AKA the way things work. Script writers just need to update their scripts to work with the new EoC updates. So this will be done on a script by script basis. If the script writer has time to update their scripts to work with EoC, they will do so and their scripts will work.

I don't think the deobfuscation/hooks are a problem right now, usually they aren't.

If some scripts are working, but others aren't, that just makes the ones that are not working either need to be coded better, or need to be updated by the script author and that hooks are working/updated.

It did help quiet alot, but on the PB forums I read that the scripts werent working due to the hooks being broken. So this problem may have been fixed, I'm not sure, all I really know is alot of scripts still wont run. If this is as you say and I suspected, a need for scripts to be updated, then I can understand it, but if the hooks are still broken and thats the reason most of the scripts wont run, I cant understand why some of them will work.

 

There's a lot of drama behind hook updaters/deopfuscators.
It takes a lot of talent to make a solid one, but anyone can use/run it once it's made.
Lots of people like to keep them to themselves and just share the hooks but not the program itself, and some bots just wait for others bots to update and steal their hooks and crap like that. Overall though it should be a simple process I'm not sure why it takes so long after some updates. But I'm 90% sure if some/any scripts are working at all, then hooks are updated and it's the scripter's job to update their scripts. (scripts don't need to be updated after each update, just hooks).
