How should I start collecting Pokemon cards?

I'd prefer if you didn't reply "Don't" etc, unless its a very good reason.

After watching a guy on youtube I love it brang back my childhood love for these things and am thinking about collecting.

See heres, the problem, I only want the first generation of cards released, but I am really confused by this shadowed/unlimited/1st edition shit, I've looked YT guides and the lighting is shit you can't clearly see, if someone could link a good video and a how to tell a fake video it'd be appreciated, now.

I want charizard, venusaur and blastoise, but what are they worth each in shadowless, unl, and 1st ed?

I would be really emaressed to be seen at a car boot, but I have a feeling there will be mums/dads there selling tonnes of there kids old cards cheap, not knowing values of some rare cards?
Watcha think?

Also is there any other unique old cards I should look out for?
Cool for a collection?
I eventually want one full 1st gen set of cards, and 1st edition charizard alone is fucking too much for one card lol, so should I go unlimited or shadowed? or 1st edition and substitute some fucking expensive ones?

Uhh, I collect cards just because I like them. Not because they're rare or worth a lot etc. I have all my cards from when I was a kid, and my grandma still buys me a pack every Christmas lol. I'm not entirely sure on how to collect the 1st generation, unless you wanna try eBay. I'm sure someone on there is selling cards.

He's a year or two older than me but we basically love the same games etc, and his prank calls are funny as fuck so is he.

I like them two, but I've only played upto 2nd generation so I don't know the new cards, so until I get paid and buy a DS I'll be absoloutley clueless,
I also will collect them because I love them, though I want a couple of... "trophy cards" I guess I can call them.
And on eBay it risks them being fake, and some kids can't tell so they'll just be like w/e no refunds its legit, and I'll lose out, also, to buy specific cards it cost quite a bit for every individual, best to buy bulk amounts.

 

Try ebay. Go for some rare cards there. Get your collection started with some good cards so if you buy packs irl, your collection doesn't look like crap. Error cards are also good for collections [I have an error pikachu card from when I was little]

 

What exactly is an error card? And the only cards I want is 1st gen, and them packs are like £10 each, way too expensive for the risk, I think they're that price cause they're factory sealed and that itself is rare.

 

Error cards are where the most money are. I did a card pricing for a family friend recently and he had $300 - $400 worth of pokemon cards between translated cards, error cards, and first editions. Error cards are self explanatory - they were printed with errors. Take pikachu first gen, base set - the first half or so first edition cards were printed with the wrong cheek color and now that card is worth around $80 if I remember correctly.

 

I have a big stack of first edition pokemon card, Plenty of shiny cards, i do have a Charizard, have others such as zapdos, machamp and a raichu.

Jk. I remember back in the day when I got a charizord and started freaking out because at the time it was worth $120 lol. I only collected when the original pokemon cards were out. I don't know much about the cards anymore, but chances are if someone is around 20 years old they collected the original cards. So look for people of that age and hope for the best

 

I'm sure you could find some on eBay. It'd be a cool collection to have when you're older, like frame some of the most legit cards. That would be sick, I would pay a lot of money for that if I was older and I saw someone with rare cards.

 

Yeh thats what I want really, the cool and rarer cards.

And KMJT, I also got a charizard in a pack when I was young, made me so happy, I have no idea 1st edition or what though, I was like 8.

 

Try eBay, or if there are locals who sell Pokemon cards [craigslist]

 

Go to boot sales/markets/ebay.. Don't buy them new!

Good advice, Dont forget flea markets or goodwill's if there are any mopeds at them buy them and bring them too me!!!!

I had a stack full of these bad boys I jacked outta a book store that was giving them away unsuporvised and no sign.

I have some of the mcdonalds cards you should have snagged from earlier this year my pokemon collection has descimated from a box to 3 cards lol.
