    Detoxing from drugs

So starting Tuesday (the 18th) I am done with habitual use of drugs, forever. At least, I hope.

I've been smoking weed for around 3 years as a daily (daily on and off) user. I've tried to quit so many times but god damn..it's a lot harder than people make it seem. "Simple DAWAWAWGGG, just don't blaze!!!" Not that simple when all your friends love to smoke all the time and ONLY hit you up for that reason and when I've made a huge habit out of it for 3 years. My dealer is also extremely reliable and packs my shit very fat for good prices (thus, it's not a problem at all to relapse).

Within the past 2 months also, I picked up a bad adderall habit too.. My friend has a prescription and he gave me 650mg in 40 pills for like $40. Told myself I'd only use them when necessary (lots of assignments, etc.) but I began to pop them daily and now it's impossible for me to really get up and going without them. I popped 3 10s 10 minutes ago and have my final 3 10s for work tonight.

Why Tuesday? I'm getting my wisdoms out. This will give me a very much needed 2 week mandatory headstart on quitting smoking. Adderall is something that won't be hard as long as my friend doesn't give me any. I won't be going to work because of my wisdoms anyway so hopefully my body can detox by then so I'll have motivation for work. Last day of classes was yesterday for me anyway (the 14th) so basically I have this entire break to detox.

Weed isn't bad imo, just I simply cannot control myself when it comes to weed. I'll stop for 2 weeks then think "Hey! I can obviously just stop whenever I want!" So I'll lite up that night with a friend and have a fun night and wake up in the morning with no regrets and feeling the same and great. With this mindset I'll think "Might as well smoke more weed! I obviously had a good time!" Then I'll buy an 8th and ONLY want to smoke (which leads to lack of motivation/laziness/etc.)

Hopefully I don't suddenly make a habit out of the pills I get from getting my wisdoms out................. I won't though - I know how fucking awful that can get.

Made this thread for basically support and personal advice/tips/info/experiences that can help me out in any way possible.

Thank you everyone a ton in advance. I've posted a ton on this 'Personal Support' forum and many of you have helped me in so many ways it's unbelievable, yet most of the time I never respond (too busy trying to stim up or something or too faded to give a fuck to respond or think what I'm typing even makes sense).

I'm quitting in a 'New Years Resolution' kind of way, but since I have to stop for my wisdoms anyway, this is a wonderful headstart and because of break I have no 'required' social interaction so by the time school comes around, I'll be my good 'ol self again.

    Thanks :)

I've done a bit of weed, but certainly not on a daily basis. I smoked normal cigarettes for about 4 years. I used to just tell myself when I had an urge "I'll have one in an hour." and then go and do something. Then in an hour I'd say "I've lasted an hour and I feel okay, I'll wait another hour.." then go and do something else. Eventually it turns in to "I'll have one in the morning." It might be a bit tougher though considering weed is probably harder to quit.

Mind over matter, keep yourself busy.

    Detoxing from drugs

Why do you have to quit to get your wisdom teeth taken out? My dad is a dentist and I've never heard of that before. They tell you not to smoke cigarettes or drink out of a straw for the first few days because it can cause dry socket, but I still did it a little bit and never had a problem. You're probably really going to want to smoke when you're taking painkillers. Nothing goes with them better than weed. It gets rid of most of the negative side effects, especially the nausea and also makes them stronger. Just saying because this might not be the best time for to quit smoking and you might want to put it off for another week.

You don't have to worry about any serious withdrawals, so really the only thing that is going be difficult is having the self control not to smoke. There isn't too much you can do, other than some obvious things. The hardest part is turning it down when it's always there. I'd recommend avoiding certain situations and people as much as you can for the first week or 2. Your chance of success will be much better if you don't have it in front of you all the time during your first days of getting clean. Sitting around doing nothing won't help you want it any less, but at least it won't be as accessible. Do whatever to take your mind off it if you find yourself thinking about it. If you don't already, exercise will definitely help speed up the process. I've been smoking on and off for around 9 years and was on probation for about half that, so I had to give it up many times. It's kind of hard at first, but it gets easier pretty quickly. Just about everyone I know smokes and it's around everywhere I go, so it's hard not to crave it and give in eventually. You just have the teach yourself to turn it down and it'll become more of a habit over time. Honestly, it's very likely you're going to relapse at some point. It's really not a big deal though as long as you don't start smoking constantly afterwards. A relapse with weed is not the same as with other drugs. Of course it's always good to give it up completely, but also don't think that you can't ever do it again for you to feel normal. If you really don't want to quit for good, then just set yourself a goal and see how you feel then. Once you learn how to live without smoking, then it won't be a problem for you to do it every once in a while if you choose to. Any addiction can get out of hand at some point, so maybe right now it's hard for you to smoke without doing it every day, but once you're off it for a while and you know you can do it, then you'll be much more able to control how much you smoke. Having a realistic goal that you know you can do will make quitting a lot easier.

As with the Adderall, it's not really going to be a problem. I was prescribed it my last 2 years of high school and I took it pretty much every day. I'd skip it some days and I eventually just quit completely because it made me feel like shit. I didn't have any withdrawals and I actually felt a million times better than I ever did on it.

Also as you of course know, be careful with any painkillers and don't underestimate them. Ironically, the first drug I ever did was a Percocet I got prescribed for getting my wisdom teeth out when I was 13. I've struggled with an opiate addiction for nearly 10 years now because of it. I'm not saying that I got hooked instantly after taking a Perc, but it certainly got things started for me. Out of every addiction I've dealt with, opiates are the only thing that I still think about it and get cravings for. Chances are you're not going to have any problems, but it never hurts to be aware of the possibilities.

Honestly dude, they say "don't smoke" because they really want you to quit rather than something bad can happen if you continue to do so. Personally I think that's all there is to it. I smoked cigs the entire time I was going through having taken 2 of my wisdom teeth out and nothing bad/damaging happened.

Also, there is no such thing as detox from weed, as weed isn't physically additive. Mentally sure, anything can be. But you won't have physical simptoms as if you were quitting something harder like heroin/cocaine/meth.

Like stated before MJ is not addictive what so ever it is all in your head. I used to touch a bit of that stuff back in Highschool and honestly with a maturity level increase and just wanting to make something of your life you should want to quit. MJ is a gateway drug bottom line but it is not hard to quit. There are different things in life you can still get that same high off of that isn't going to screw up your life. May I also add MJ kills brain cells which is the only cell in your body that does not reproduce.

It's a habbit. If you do something everyday for 3 years it's hard to stop.
I used to smoke weed, but the reason I quit was because I realised the money I save from not smoking it.
It is hard when you're friends are doing it, but just man up and don't do it.
I live a healthy lifestyle now, only eating healthy food and I'm in the same situation when my friends are all eating chips/pizza/crisps etc and my head is saying "go on! Take one! You know you want to!" But I don't because its what I want to do. You just have to resist the urge to eat, or in your case, resist the urge to smoke.

Yeah this is true. I can usually keep self-control but when day 4 comes around and I've just been sitting around the whole week and my friend texts me like "yo0o0o let's go out son!" which only means smoke, I usually cave.

Thanks a bunch for the advice. The first day (Tuesday) I was too fucked up for anything so I slept all day. On Wednesday I ate these weed brownies me and my friend made on Monday (so technically Thursday, Dec. 20th, is the first day). So I took your advice there :p but I think I'll survive without weed throughout this week getting better. My mom is handling all my meds so I don't even know where my painkillers are (pretty sure they're oxycodones).

You can detox from weed. You need to detox from weed to pass drug tests, don't you? Detox - detoxify your system - clean it.

MJ has been a gateway drug for me, this is true. It doesn't kill brain cells though. Thanks for the motivation and advice.
Yeah. I feel like weed is truly holding back my true potential; education-wise, fitness and health related, monetarily and socially.

Yeah I've done about 2 months at one point then relapsed. Did 2 weeks at the beginning of November and relapsed. I can surely get through one week.

Very true! The gym is a huge motivation as to why I want to quit smoking as well. I cannot get any 'beginner gains' anymore though, so if I want to get that 'buzz' as you call it, I need to change my diet and eat more :p

This is going to sound like some magic or something but meditation helps. Just find you a quiet place to read, write, or just sit and relax. If you really want to do this then you might have to cut ties with those people who are just going to pull you back in, or at least make them aware you are doing this. If they don't have enough respect not to ask you to come do it with them then that is probably when you should move on and find people who can support and motivate you in new interests that don't involve the consumption of weed.
