Yes great idea, mass shooting in a school - let's supply more guns to our citizens! With that sort of intelligence you could take Obama's job clean from him. So what happens when one of the teachers decides "fuck this world I can't be bothered with this anymore I'm going to rage out with a bang" and next thing you know we have a repeat of this.

    Imbecile.

You're joking right? If one of them had a fire arm the damages would have been far less. That guy would have got a fire arm no matter what, if a teacher wants to go out with a bang he can easily bring a firearm from home and go out with a bang. Please at least post something insightful because you made yourself look like an imbecile.

I'm surprised how many people are crying more about gun control rather than wondering what lack of security there is in American schools.

Do you honestly think a difference of $50-$100 in the cost of a gun would have deterred the guy from doing this or any other person who's gone into a school and started shooting?

Out of curiosity have you ever heard of a teacher mass killing students because if any of them truly did want to go out with a bang they still could have but a teacher's mentality is far different from that of a person who wants to go out with a bang.

He could bring a firearm from home, but that's if he plans for it. He could receive that fateful phone call on his lunch break hey we're taking your house, your car and the rest of your material shit and there's fuck all you can do about it. You make it sound like it must be planned all the time!

Security in a school, seriously? How fucked up can a country be to the point you need security guards in a fucking elementary school. Holy shit in Switzerland the only guards we have in the education system are in colleges since especially in Riesbach or Birmensdorf the teens are little shits and like to fight each other and wind up having to be removed from the premises or ex-students/friends of students loiter. Then again we don't let a bunch of faggots run around with guns, it's easier to get a driving license here than it is to hunt for game.

And no I doubt the price of the gun is relevant, considering he clearly planned to die afterwards he didn't have to think "Hm I need to buy a gun and have enough money to buy food left end towards the end of the month."

And yes, I do know of teachers who have gone on shooting rampages in school. Concordia comes to mind first but I'm sure there're more.

You do realize concordia was a staff shooting and no students were killed? Also he brought the firearm from home and it was illegal for him to have the firearms and he actually had the intention to kill which is basically equivalent to any random person going in to shoot and kill. He didn't randomly wake up saying I think I'm going to go and shoot random people, if he had the opportunity to he would have went to each of their houses and shot them but it was easier to just find them at the workplace. He was basically a ticking time bomb and should have immediately be seen as a threat in 1989 when he started justifying shooting people.

These teachers are interacting on a daily basis it is really hard to hide distress in a school with people you see everyday, I'm sure people would have began noticing changes in the shooter before he did what he did.

Security and police presence deter violence, how can you justify less security in a place where there is no protection whatsoever from violence?

Nobody here is justifying more lenient gun control but its clear the USA won't be changing their gun laws so they should instead work on protecting against violent crimes in areas where protection generally wouldn't be seen as needed.

Stuff like this disgusts me. I think the US government should really take gun laws into review, and impose stricter laws on how guns can be obtained. Yes the killer may have illegally obtained a gun, but the gun was probably legally bought in the first place.

If guns were banned in the US, there would be fierce opposition, but it would save lives. People would still sell them illegally, but the prices would be driven much higher. When guns are being sold like groceries in Wal-mart, you have to see that there is a problem.

I really don't see how banning guns would solve the problem. You have to realize that people here in the US take the 2nd amendment very seriously. I believe that we should have a stricter control on amunition and find a way to restrict owning anything outside of the realm of a small hand gun or hunting gear. But it is in our governments hands to decide what happens. Either way, someone is not going to like the choice.

If they McDonalds was banned there wouldn't be any fat people.

That argument just doesn't work. With a vast criminal network it is entirely easy to just go find your local gangbanger and pick up just about anything you want. Even in places with outlawed personal firearms it is easy to get a fire arm. I am all for making people pass a mental check and having an extended waiting period for people to purchase a firearm, but firearms are a person freedom reserved by the constitution.

And make your own bullets. Stricter gun laws would merely keep guns out of the hands of people who could use them responsibly.

I am 22 years old with a 10 Month old son and when i heard about this i was very shocked as a parent i can only imagine the sadness, pain, anger and disbelief these parents must be feeling i hope this makes the GOV. realize that there needs to be some changes in some laws that make it mandatory for mental evaluation before someone can purchase a gun and you may only buy the gun for yourself not someone else.

They need increased security (cameras). It took 20 deaths before someone stopped a guy with a knife? I'd assume it isn't all that hard to overpower someone with a knife. Just grab something long and hit him with it?

Related back to the main incident I think the answer is increase security in all schools. Would make it almost impossible to get a gun into a classroom.

I am not sure how much people missed in the way of facts... But there have been a lot of recent updates to this story.

    1. This kid came from home after shooting his mother point blank in the face, killing her.
    2. He came with not only 2 semi-auto pistols but a semi-automatic rifle as well.
    3. He was also believed to have body-armor.
    4. The person who people originally thought the shooter to be, was in fact the kid's older brother, who was working the whole day with verification from swipe cards and other means at his job.
    5. They are still unsure of the motive to the shooting, although it is believed that the mother may have helped at the school at one point or another.

As quoted from the one site:
In rebuttal to the teachers having handguns: Even if a teacher had a hand gun, they would have required a very good shot (to the head or arms/legs) to prevent much from happening - the guy was wearing a bullet-proof vest. Not to mention I'm sure the teachers were caught off guard and would have had to fumble around with a lock-safe just to access their own gun. -- What I would really like to know is how you can acquire a bullet-proof vest so easily... That would raise multiple red-flags in my mind. -- Besides, most teachers (want to) believe that their school is safe. Especially the elementary level schools. You have to be very twisted to shoot at innocent K-4 kids. Ones that have barely began to live their lives.

In my college, I know that there is one professor who is an ex-detective who has a license to carry a concealed weapon... And yes he still carries his service revolver on him at all times. In reality I have been tempted to carry my own weapon in case something ever happens. This sort of thing is tragic, and if I had a choice to put a stop to it I would do anything in my power.

However, what's done is done... All we can do now is send out our grievance to those who lost family and friends in this incident.
