Runescape + real job to fund RS?

I mentioned this in another thread, and figured it'd be an interesting topic to discuss - How many of you have a real life job (aside from parental pressure of course) that you use to fund your RS goals?

This is pretty obvious, but working a real job is way less time consuming than grinding in RS for gold. I'm not talking about people that use it to fund their gold shop businesses, just leisurely play.

I see so many upsides to working a job and using it to aid with RS. You spend more time on RS doing what you want to do, and gold really isn't all that expensive. My favorite part though is how it's an investment of sorts..you probably wont get a profit or a 100 percent return on your "investment" so to speak...but you still get a large portion of it back. Also for stakers and merchants you could end up turning a large wealth into an enormously large wealth.

I was just wondering how many people did this? Or if you're wondering a way to get money, DO THIS. You get work experience, some moderately decent exercise depending on where you work, and no time grinding in RS.

Although it sounds obvious, I didn't do it until last Spring, I have since saved a nice amount towards my college education, probably around 5-6 grand, while spending about 800-1000 on RS to max out my guy. And I ended up staking to close to 7 billion, which I still have, so I'll yield a little profit ;)

If you think about it in a video game sense, RS GP is one of the few "investments" you can make. Any MMORPG or game currency really. But if you buy like Halo 4 and want your money back..have fun getting a cookie and 10 bucks store credit from GameStop lol.

TLDR: For anyone thinking of RS methods to make money, scrap it. Go get a simple job and saves 1000's of hours in game. Again, I'm not saying this isn't obvious, but I was wondering if anyone else does it. :)

Just to clarify: I realize buying game currency is something only a privileged individual can do, I know everyone should spend their money wisely, but if you have a bit extra and don't play many other games and still love RS...this is smart. Especially since 100M in RS can do plenty of things and will only set you back 30-40 bucks..which is less than most retail games anyway.

You can also talk about how you MAKE money from RS as well. Don't need to say any trade secrets, just tell how RS has helped you financially :p

I don't want to be an ass, but i think that funding a game with a real life job is stupid especially in this economy. There is so much more important things to get. Let alone how hard it is to find a job (atleast here in England).

Oh sweet, yeah you guys can post any business stories you have if you want, I want to hear them, they are always so interesting.

I had originally planned selling all my gold with EoC..but I actually enjoy it. I'm waiting to see if these new skills are any good then I'll decide if I want to stay.

But that's awesome man, I of course prioritize real money over the RSGP as you never know when RSGP could become worthless..but I'm glad I have some extra cash to not have to worry about runecrafting 284849329 nature runes

@humpo: you do not sound like an ass buddy haha..I know what you're saying. I've put 90 percent of my savings towards my education..whereas others buy video games or get take out every night I've put a decently sized investment into my gold. I've made money selling off staked items as well, so I'm mainly just talking to the crowd of younger kids who can get a minimum wage type job and don't have a huge financial burden right now.

I could understand selling GP to make irl money. But working irl, solely to satisfy your life in RS is just idiotic. I don't understand people who spend tons of money on buying RSGP and in game items.

I've never purchased RSGP for my own account, only for other sales/accounts.

Nobody said they use it to solely satisfy their RS goals, like I said before, for me, 90 percent of my money goes to my education, while 5 percent goes towards rent, and 5 towards random expenses (in some cases RS).

Spending all of your money in one place is usually a foolish proposition. I've profited quite nicely from RS and will continue to do so. :noworry:

Irl work > rs work (for gp's) just my opinion.
Because you go meet other people, work with them, don't end up beeing a nerd behind the pc 24/7 ; and you also keep living.
Cmon- what's the point of life if you just keep staying behind the pc?

Well, if you play RS for fun, like most people do, I think it would be stupid not to buy RSGP, unless if that kills the challenge for you and thus makes the game less fun.
It saves you heaps of time grinding in game.
The time you win you can spend on fun stuff or getting a job. I completely follow OP.
You don't need to make profit out of it. If you enjoy RS, buying RSGP is the way to go. If you don't enjoy RS, stop playing and do something else with your time.

Trying to EARN money trough RS is a waste of time in my opinion, as you earn faster with a normal job.

Everyone, except for this guy^ doesn't seem to understand op. I currently work at Whataburger and sure i buy a couple of mills every once in a while but I don't go spend my whole check on it. I use half my money to have fun other half is banked.

I prefer keeping RS Gold, and my real-life cash seperate, because on a personal basis, only play RS for fun, and getting gold ingame is half the fun for me.

However, I have bought gold in the past, and its really each to their own, if people want to invest money in gold, cool, and if people want to buy gold to throw away, also cool, its the individual's choice.

What you said is completely fine, and I agree to some extent. However, my job is merely to pay for gas, clothes, and food (if I decide to go out to eat). I'm blessed to have the financial cushion I do, but there are other things on my list usually e.g. an acoustic guitar that I would rather have at the moment. Honestly, if I buy GP at this point it's for a party hat and nothing else, however I used to buy GP for skills such as Herb, Craft, Pray, etc.

Runescape + real job to fund RS?

Wow great posts guys. As for my job, I am very fortunate to have an entry level position already, after interning with a company they offered me a real position. So I am working a real type job simultaneous with my studies. My rent isn't that cheap, but it is split with a few others to take the burden off myself.

I have a friend who spends 500-1000 dollars a month just on recreational hunting gear. If you have the money to spend and are fortunate enough to have it to spend on something that makes you happy, I say go for it. Because grinding in actual RS for GP is a waste of time now, unless you're really adept at killing bosses for great drops, staking, merchanting, etc.

Runescape + real job to fund RS?

This is probably different for me in comparison to most people here on Sythe since I have an online business (no relation to RS).
Started off as a tiny little business with tiny income. I began my online business when I was 18, but now 2 years later, it's expanded and I'm having a decent income whilst staying at home. It's funded my car, my motorcycle, my apartment, pretty much everything.

I bank around 80% of my income, use around 15% for rent, bills, food, outings, petrol, education etc.
5% on RuneScape mills and do free giveaways ranging from 30-50m (lol).

But I'll be honest and say I'm always bored since I don't go to class, don't actually "go" to work. Yeah I'm a lonely 20 year old.
Hoping to finish my final year of Paramedics at Uni in the following year and actually have a legitimate job. Probably won't be spending any earnings on Runescape anymore and save up for something more practical, or perhaps a house.

Sorry if this doesn't relate much to OP, just thought I'd share since you don't mind hearing business stories :)

Wow that's good for you man, not many people can establish an online business and be that successful with it. That will be a great thing to bolster your resume because it takes skill, smarts, determination, and is definitely unique.

That pretty much sounds exactly like me, I put a small amount of earnings towards RS and other games, and then go for my most prized material possessions like my car + apartment as well.

Keep up the good work dude

I mean, how much gp can you make an hour of playing rs? Probably not 15 mil which is what you could afford with working an hour at a minimum wage job in my state at 50 cents per mil.

Bot whilst at work - make untaxable income on top of my actual taxable income. Fuck trying to be self-sustainable off RS. I did that for three months, it wasn't great.
