Let me preface this post by saying that this is in no way a comment on this dispute, because I have little to no knowledge of the validity of it. This is just what got me thinking about it.

My question is what are the safeguards to prevent let's say my account or another user's account from being SE'd if I go inactive for a few months? What if they are SE'd, are you still going to force us to pay for your mistake? Seems like the logical answer would be no, but sometimes things around here aren't quite logical. Would the staff member who gave it to the SE'r be responsible for paying back the scammed users? I know that isn't something that has happened or has happened often, but it is something to think about.

    Thanks guys.

Pretty sure n4n0 would have checked ips before sending the request. It should go to his registered email though.

If the i.p's didn't match, I'm pretty sure the mod/admin is responsible, as they gave it to some randomer.

If this is the case the original account owner shouldnt be held responsible ... i would understand if his email or pw was cracked but if staff gave the hacker the account the issues there after fall on whoever gave control to the hacker (appears to be n4n0 :\). Holding the original owner responsible for staffs fuck up is bullshit.

OT I suggested a sort of deactivation on inactivity a good while back, specifically for ex mods because they seem to be most targeted. But some of the ideas being thrown around were recovery questions after a set period of time (during which the account would be banned for inactivity or possibly given an inactive locked rank to avoid the ban stigma). Everyone got pissy because i suggested it disable ex mod ranks or possibly take them away because they earned the rank, my only reasoning for these accounts in particular is the face they are often hi jacked for instant trust, that was when the whole pen and another exmod had scammed recently (though pen was apparently him so i hear). The idea is still applicable to the general user base, if you go inactive your account gets locked and some recovery questions and what not are set in place and more stringent things outside of a recovery email being sent. The idea got some support but i didnt word the op very well and a bunch of people misinterpreted the idea and got butthurt.

If the dude is telling the truth, then obviously he shouldn't pay jack shit for a staff mistake.

    *Assuming this is the case*

Whichever staff member couldn't properly verify his identity and gave his account to a scammer, should have to cover the losses, while it's a mistake, it's the same as someone hacking your account and then scamming. Easily prevented, but it does happen, so yeah.

That's my take, niggers. G-Sizzle out.

There was no mistake made. The post he claims wasn't him, contains the exact same IP. Closing this.
