No this idea is just shit lol, and where did you randomly build your marketing experience?

The potential benefits is no where near the risks associated with it and the problems which can occur.

 

i've honestly seen bumper stickers with a website on them and gone to it just to see what it is, if anything stickers would work.

 

So you want the admins to go out of their way to code this official shop, for it not to work because about 3 people will actually buy a shirt and they'll never go outside anyway?

 

Jesus fuck yes I do thats why we have some god damn admins. If you can't spend a few minutes of your time doing something for the site you shouldn't be an admin. Stop making excuses for them everytime something comes up. "Oh we can't do anything because it takes time"

Why the fuck am I even bothering. This is common sense for anyone with even a little sense of business or marketing.

 

Actually this is more of an amateur approach to marketing.

A real business person would consider the high risks vs the high likely hood of no return and potential losses of this venture. Unless you are up charging people for the service there really is no benefits whatsoever from doing this.

Since when did you randomly become a marketing guru, this just hurts your own credibility becoming a walking billboard.

 

"A real business person" would see that obviously current techniques aren't working out, and so something new needs to be tried. There are risks for anything you try, but does that mean they shouldn't be done? You do not know how it's going to turn out, and if you just sit back and say everything sucks you're going to get no where.

And yes I do consider myself to have a fair amount of marketing knowledge. Not a guru, but I have more than most people on Sythe who just like to sit here and do nothing. Both of my parents are in marketing jobs, and I have to work on marketing of my own for the various websites I've done. I've made mistakes, and I've learned a lot. I also know that the marketing techniques of Sythe have barely changed, and it's reflecting in the amount of growth. You can sit back and say all these ideas are shitty because you think so, but that doesn't change the fact that nothing is happening. Adding and removing subsections isn't gonna work anymore sunshine. So shut the fuck up and look at the obvious facts.

OP not the best idea ever; it's an interesting addition, but honestly a thread created by Sythe, stickied in the forums, and endorsed by admins would be infinitely easier, less time consuming, and be almost as good as the hours of coding it would take to do otherwise.

 

Yes finally some common sense! Richard I think that if you personally approached a few of our more talented GFX artists they would be willing to throw out some concept art for a new logo. A competition in the GFX forum couldn't hurt either as long as it's given the proper hype and attention.

 

The real debate should be whether or not there's interest.

x339: Try to gauge buying interest. Out of 50 people you approach, how many are willing to buy a tshirt? How much would they be willing to spend? Create polls, etc.

If you're able to obtain that sort of data, I'm sure the staff would be more keen to act on your suggestion.

 

I have nothing to gain from going to the efforts of proving to you that a particular method will work. The fact of the matter is that you don't know what will work, and what won't until you try it, and give it your best effort. I am not trying to market sythe myself, I am simply trying to point out that things like this need to be done.

 

Actually you do.
Ask your parents seeing as they are market experts. Tests are made in any scenario for a business. You need to see if something works before you go ahead and invest your time, effort and money into it.
A poll would prove if there would be any sales or not. I for one would vote no to buying a T-shirt and you've said yourself in IRC that you wouldn't buy one, as did everybody else in IRC.

If you can gather enough yes's to buying a shirt then that would mean its worth investing in.

 

Is that so? I am merely pointing out the obvious here. I can run all the surveys I want but that still isn't going to accurately portray the outcome. Marketing is a lot of hit and miss, and you have to be willing to try things that may not immediately resonate with people.

 

A good investor analyzes everything and doesn't blindly jump into something because there is a slim chance of success. The fact that sythe is dieing doesn't mean blindly throwing t shirt opportunities will make the site grow. The 2 maybe 3 people who buy anything wouldn't even wear it in public.

Realistically those shirts cost $20 right? You can get 4-5 plain t-shirts for $20 and have sythe.org pressed on it for at most $5/ shirt.

The effort put into this venture could be put into something else which would probably be way better than this, and weren't you the one who suggested removing and moving sections?

Also past attempts of this have all failed so what real point is there to take a risk on a previously failed attempt which has gauged no interest so far from the community.

Nobody wears runescape t-shirts in public why the hell would they wear a sythe t-shirt in public?

 

If cafepress is used there is zero risk in this. They handle payments, shipping, ect.

 

Its all speculation, and just as in penny stocks, the greater the risk the greater the reward. You don't know how popular they will or won't be, and asking random people isn't going to change that fact. You have to try things to find out.

Well effort isn't being put in to anything else in the first place so.... Plus who cares. This excuse is used way too often. Oh it's a waste of time, oh it's to much effort, oh I don't want to do this-- get over it. The site isn't going to market itself. Also I suggested cleaning things up as a preliminary move, but other people like to rely on it as the only acceptable change.

When something fails, you don't sit there and cry, you figure out how to make it work. Previous attempts had horrible execution. If done differently, it has a better chance of succeeding. Don't just give up and say oh well the idea sucks, figure out what went wrong and fix it.

Your opinion on that does not matter. I think uggs are stupid, yet countless people wear them. If even one person wheres it, it will be a success.
