Counter-Scamming

Would a user have to prove he was scammed by user A before counter scamming to avoid being banned? Or is it open season and user B can scam user A, and won't need to provide proof of being scammed unless a scam report comes out from user A?

^^ Could you give the quote saying when you would have to prove you were scammed? From what I gathered from the thread and the post is that you would only need to prove you were counter scamming if a scam report comes up.

 

I know this isn't entirely on topic, but I'm curious: what happens if they've transferred gold onto the account since the trade took place. Say they have proof of this, and you do not return the gold. Would you then be banned for scamming?

 

Yes. You're not allowed to take back more than you got scammed for, that would just make you a scammer. Although I don't believe you should have to pay them back for any levels they gained on the account, then we're just getting into something pretty trivial IMO. If you sold someone a level 3 skiller, and they charged you back, and then you recovered the account and it was level 200, I think that you shouldn't have to pay your scammer for the time they put into the account. But any gold they had wasn't yours to begin with. This was longer than I meant it to be, in conclusion, repay the gold, don't repay for levels gained/time put into the account

 

I doubt that case would ever happen. Why would you chargeback a small payment if you have had the account intact for a long time and have leveled it?

Of course hypothetical cases have a chance, small one, but can happen.

That's when per-case rules are followed.

Why's this even being discussed? OF COURSE he should be able to take his GP back. It's his GP, you're not going to let somebody take your phone from you and then the next day just be like "oh yeah you can have that because it's against the law to take it back from you" like wtf, are you a bunch of pussies? Someone scams 500M off you, you show proof that you were scammed to the guy he's selling the gold to, you get your gold back. You guys crack down so hard on scammers and put up this big front about any little offsite thing will get you banned, it seriously doesn't make sense how you're now trying to protect them. So you're trying as hard as you can to get rid of them, but you want to protect them at the same time? Wow, seriously. Let the man have his fucking GP back, it's a loophole in the rules gives scammers a crazy advantage.

Why not years down the road? conveniece thing maybe? if it is, i disagree with that cus its not like you got to chose when you were gonna get scammed..

I think they should be able to hack them at their own risk as long as they dont go over board with it. like just get in and out with only what you are owed or what the value has come to (time is money after all. I wouldnt be against them taking another 5 mil or so due to the fact that they had to put 10 hours into the recovery process).

If you can hack them them without making a mess i day do it, but thats at your own risk there might be a possibility of the law getting involved (not sure how far the law goes with hackin and all that).

If you think about it, if someone was trying to rob you and you felt the need to, you can legaly kill someone for that. now dont get carried away as this is just a game lol (id rather not see someone die over runescape), but for some people that runescape gp IS real money.....so its almost like they stole real money.

I dont see why getting your money back would make sythe go downhill...it not like anyone gets caught in the crossfire...the scammer isnt going to come to your house while you and bigfluffypillows99 are hanging out on your couch playing xbox and and start throwing blows at you guys.

 

On sythe i would say. get your account back. Don't let that scammer leave with your cash.

That's a crap example imo and yes, if you knew where the robber lived somehow, I would get my tv set back because it's rightfully mine.

 

I only read the first page, but counter-scamming really should be allowed only if approved by an admin or two or something of the like and there has to be some good evidence.

If a user counter-scams on their own, then they should be banned for not taking the proper actions. If they make their case to staff, then it should be allowed. I've been involved in various forms of this, ranging from scams being countered directly to simply not unbanning people after they pay back their scam (because let's face it, some people will never change).

The whole thing should be sorta like a private scam report and treat it as so.

 

If you sell somebody an account through paypal and they chargeback recover the account. SIMPLE
