Your Favorite Groups that are not well known / should be more popular

Who are your favorite groups that are unknown to most of your friends, or just not as popular as they should be, in your opinion?

I would have to go with KMFDM. Despite being a group synonymous with school shootings, I find their content brilliant. It isn't their fault that a couple of maniacs got hooked to their music.

But I'm not going to lie, it's the only way I found out about them. The Columbine killers in particular were high on KMFDM and Rammstein.

Anyway, a few other groups I like that not many others may know about include Union Underground, and Tech N9ne back in the day (when he was just on Madden soundtracks and not mainstream).

The Avett Brothers are one of the best bands in the modern folk scene but are always over shadowed by a lot of the more pop-ish folk stuff out.

 

Interesting, maybe I'll give a listen. I'm literally into any type of music really. I will give everything a chance..well aside from Justin Bieber

 

One of my favorites is a British hip hop duo called Rizzle Kicks. Some of their best songs are "Down with the Trumpets", "Mama Do the Hump" , and "When I was a Youngster"

Final War or Screwdriver. Their both great bands, have great songs about being proud of your race (if ur white) but almost no one knows who they are.

And if youre not into nazi-rock, then the mountain goats are possibly the most under-appreciated folk bands of all time. Everyone who hears their songs love them, but have no clue who they are.... Such as the song No Children from the last episode of Moral Orel, the one that talks about "I hope I lie and tell everyone you were a good wife, and I hope you die, I hope we both die" as well as the song "old college try" on an earlier episode.

They aren't strictly folk though. alot of their songs have a rock feel, but most of their earlier work, his earlier work* ("they" were originally just John Darnielle from 1991 - 1992, he however often performed with the all girl reggae band "the casual girls") And they mostly put out folk music until around 1995 with the release of the album Tallahassee, which is still a very folk album and my all time favorite by them, however they started throwing rock music into some of their songs. Today I believe Darnielle performs mostly solo and in his old style but still goes by the name "The Mountain Goats" however, I could be wrong and it may have been just one recent concert I watched that was only him.

Are you referring to Skrewdriver? If I remember correctly they're hardcore racists.

 

None of my friends know who A Day to Remember or Art of Dying are, which are my two favourite bands. I've asked random people if they know who either are, and they say no. :<

 

Both of those are huge bands. -.-'


Also the Wonder Years are awesome.

 

When even those names are unknown, that's how you know we're in a whole new gangnam era.

I actually stopped listening to new music quite some years back, but I guarantee if I walked back into my high-school and ran a survey, no one could tell me who a band is like candlebox, gin blossoms, hell even alice in chains, even newer stuff like Godsmack, Fuel, Incubus, Korn, etc.

Waiting for someone edgy and out there to come save the radio, but unfortunately you gotta really be happy rainbows and butterflies just to make it into mainstream these days.

Does it count if it's new music from bands I've been listening to forever?

I don't get down to any of that new stuff (some call it indie, some call it electronic, whatever it is), all those bands like mumford and songs, m83, (the people who sing set the world on fire, name escapes me at the moment), i really don't know all of the names but you get the point. And that's ALL THEY PLAY on the radio, so usually when I'm listening to music it's a cd lol.

I used to have the time to go find good bands, and I know they're still out there but I just don't have the time to do that anymore. It's also a shame that local radio stations don't support the bands that deserve recognition anymore (Speaking relatively of course but I'm sure it happens everywhere)

I will admit there have been those few songs that have made way to my ears that I enjoy, would crank up, but you wouldn't find me going to their concerts like a die hard fan or something. (Silversun pickups - Lazy eye was one of those that are like that)

If you have the time to direct me to good bands, I'm always open ears though. I'm more rock though, too many fags like little wang and drake and all of those fake ass rappers ruined what real hip-hop was.

 

A band that is leaded by the leader of Blink 182 called Angels and Airwaves. They've alot of good tunes.

I could stand a couple of their songs, but really I could take or leave them.

I think +44 was a better blink branch, I also thought Box car racer was pretty cool.

Blink 182 will always have that place on the top though lol

 

a silent film, the wombats, a two door cinema club(super popular everywhere but where i live...)...everyones views on what isnt recognized is different based on where they live.

Godspeed You! Black Emporer, wow that definitely takes me back lol. Dude I love bands from the past decade. I think bands like Incubus, Lit, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Jimmy Eat World, etc. are fucking great and I consider some of that music to be my favorite, no doubt.

Don't think I'm just hating on it! Lots of great music especially from like the turn of the century to 2005 a lot of great bands came to be.
