Major Sections Overhaul

Since the markets got a nice and fancy rework lately I thought I'd suggest we do the same for the discussion sections. I'll start with my ideas for the sections, in order from top down to the bottom of the index.

Runescape Discussion:
I'm not really sure what to do here but I think this suggestion has some merit.


Off Topic
Assets and Investment is the least active section in Off Topic considering most of Sythe.org's member base won't actually have any notable assets. I am not sure how well this category would fit into General/Off Topic however. Something definitely needs to happen with it though.


Graphics
I feel merging the two least active parts of this section would be decent. These sections are Graphics Tutorials and Resources with a staggering 66 threads and 524 posts and the other is Graphics Discussion and Questions with only 1801 threads and 11466 posts.


Xbox Gaming
x339's suggestion here http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1454561 to merge the xbox section with Other Games has fallen by the wayside unfortunately but it definitely sounds like a good idea. There are duplicates of threads, etc - such as Black Ops discussion threads and Halo discussion threads in both Xbox General and Other Games - FPS. I think two new sections in Other Games would be a good idea. These would be: Console Discussion and Gaming Videos or something similar to that effect.


Programming
In all of this section there are a whopping 2914 threads. It's obvious that this section needs an overhaul as it is completely dead. A possible alternative: Merge all of it into Programming General.


Scar/Simba
This is another inactive section with only 3572 threads. This section needs an overhaul also. Script Requests could be dealt away with and could be made a subsection of Software Sales or something. Runescape Scripts is a fairly useless place as, despite the stickies, people try to request scripts, sell scripts or post viruses here. If someone wants a Scar/Simba script they should head over to their forums, a stickied thread saying so would suffice to eliminate that section. Asides from that, the remaining two sections could be merged and made part of Programming.

Lol nice rip off my thread dip shit. You don't really know what you're talking about, because on my thread you were saying the complete opposite of what you're saying here. But I agree, all the sections with less than 2-3 posts per day need to be merged or at least taken into consideration. All the sections with less than 100 threads definitely need to be merged. Lastly, all the topics that are similar to each other, but have different sections, need to be merged. The goal is to cover as many topics in as little sections as possible, and the basic layout of the main page isn't nearly generalizing enough. The topics are to narrow, and need to be widened and merged to cover more. Basically covers it all, it's pretty obvious to tell what sections don't fit in and what sections do, doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Dat bias towards new users.

 

So many suggestions for this, and they don't want to change it.

As for the Programming section, I was actually a moderator there for a very short period of time and tried to get it changed. Richard won't change it because he likes that section.

 

@ athlete ^ why do you have to be such an ass dude? and for the record your a new user you barely just joined... and Jack was just stating his ideas so reaally just get over it mate.

 

To be honest i believe this is a brilliant idea if your talking about actually getting some activity into these sections cause as u mentioned there absolutely dead and we need ideas like this to get them going.....

Total support from me Jack, im actually trying to figure out some ways to get these weak sections more action but this is fab man......

lol what? He came to my thread about this exact same thing bitching about to just collapse the sections, and basically making an ass out of himself. He then runs over here and makes his own thread about the exact same thing I was talking about, totally tripping over his own words. I just find it funny. I was trying to get everyone's take on the whole situation to see what sections specifically needed to be merged, and he is flat out stating what sections need to be merged, is the only difference. I don't really care about this petty shit either way it's just funny how he came into my thread saying the exact opposite of what he's saying here.

 

All of the content is different, however the thought of it did derive from your thread. I've been getting positive comments so either majority of Sythe doesn't know what they're talking about or I know what I am talking about.

I wouldn't mind making a forum for Programming & Scripting, but moving everything in the Programming forum to Programming General is a bad idea. It will be a cluster-fuck of completely different material.

My suggestion for Programming & Scripting is as such:

 

I believe the programming section should be condensed to two, at most three sections. All of the sections are barely active and are more relics than anything.

 

I'm going to take Sythe's word for it, but I do support what Jack Goff has made apparent. Athlete please give Jack Goff the credit he deserves as you clearly did not make a suggestion to this magnitude.

 

Jack Goff does make some reasonable and true points about the sections. I am most supportive in the areas of Off Topic, Programming, Scar/Simba and Runescape Discussion. Merging the two graphics sections will make it look more activate due to the inactivity of those sections currently.

 

Making the section look more active is a totally different from the section actually being active but I agree we do need more activity there.

 

If the sections appear to be more active it sparks more activity in itself. No one wants to try resuscitate a section by themselves as it is a painful process.

 

Possible just make all the programming sections under one subsection that itself is under technology in off topic? eg

->Programming
-->.Net
-->Java
-->Other shit

That does sound like a pretty good way to compile everything. Sythe spoke of some changed that are going to be happening, maybe he's touched base on some of these concepts.

 

Support. To an extent. Not sure about the "Other shit" sub-forum. The problem is also that the Programming sub-forum will be non-visible from the main index.
