We'd probably set up the metric so that it only counts accounts with several posts which are not also banned.

The referred account, the referrer or both? Both would be the best option, but probably not the most viable.

i think that it should be more well known, that sythe does other games too, (other then runescape) maybe if sythe advertised on websites relating to other games for example world of warcraft helpsites

and maybe a rank for people who invite people, this ranks can be optional
for example once you invite 50 people you get the title master "*your user name* for example i would be master liamb89

I think if people with their own sites just added on the end of their LiveChat/MSN conversation, "It'd be appreciated if you joined up HERE and posted a vouch HERE." linking to their threads, that's thousands of potential visitors straight off the bat.

Do many of the large gold sellers get business and traffic to their website that isn't coming directly from sythe? I was under the impression most gold sellers have websites mostly for the ability to accept credit card payments without the worry of charge backs. The only two that I know of that are ranked in the first 5-8 pages of google are R2pleasent and RSU. And If they were to advertise for sythe I don't think they should be paid as sythe itself has provided them with a tremendous amount of business.

Edit: Not sure if this is a good idea or not but have you ever considered paying runescape video makers to advertise with either some kind of intro or a shout out? I could see some maybe not wanting to be associated with a RWT site such as sythe but I'm sure it would be cheap compared to other methods and would provide quality traffic.

No one is going to advertise Sythe for free on their site-- just putting that out there...

Also for the 300th time, paid advertising is far from the only thing you can do. If you don't have any experience other than what you assume you know, stop trying to make it look like it's the only option *cough* sellerman *cough*

Lots of people browse as guests and go directly to the site, actually asking them to sign up could prove a good step..

If most of their business is down to Sythe itself, I don't see why they wouldn't do *something* at least.

lol wtf are you comparing sythe to? That forum has a whole different perspective from sythe

For those suggesting big gold sellers advertise sythe on their website, think about it from a seller's perspective if you already have a lock on your customers why would you bring them to a forum where you buy your gold from. A lot of gold sellers know they would lose more customers if they advertised the forums they do business on.

It's the point that you don't need paid advertising to succeed. It doesn't matter if it's about runescape, or if it's about unicorns. You don't need paid advertising to get more activity.

That's true, however I believe with our target market, paid advertising would prove more successful than other efforts. What do you suggest, that is free, that we can do? I'm all for ideas, I want this site to grow, and I'm willing to help.

Lets talk about your train of though first. Why do you believe that with our target market paid advertising is going to be the most successful approach? What prior experience has led you to this conclusion?

Was an Admin on a forum twice the size of this for 2 years, which now makes ~ $20k monthly of donations. It got to where it was via Banner spots, primarily; and having a 'famous' few people, who attracted others.

Sythe said paid didn't work, so I want to explore other free options? Throw some at me.

What forum is that exactly? And why aren't you an admin there anymore?

Also I have tried time and time again to work on different ways of marketing sythe, but it all happens without the back up of staff or anyone else really, and so it fails. I have no interest in wasting my time further with that.

As I said, I'm willing to help, throw out an idea, and entail what needs to be done...we are both CDT, so I WILL help.

I also asked what forum it was. Plus you say it's successful now, that does nothing to attest for when you were an admin.

I am not CDT anymore due to the massive waste of time. I proposed many ideas, and did my best to get them going, but everyone just decided they didn't care. Everyone thinks changing rules, adding subsections, and making competitions is going to grow the site; well sorry, it's not. Those things do jack.

    @X339,

What ideas do you have then? I'm willing to help... instead of saying what has happened in the past, state something we can do now?

Spam bots in game are a possibility but I'm 99.9% sure Richard won't do it.

On the other hand, social networks are great. Twitter + buy some 10'K followers plus active people tweeting is another option. Same for FB page, which would need to be active!

    What else can we do...

Richard should pay for an SEO package. I am sure he could find a good one for a few hundred, and it would bring a lot more attention to the site.
