SRR - Warez 1 Month Ban

Pretty sure the warez restriction is (like pins) due to legal constraints

 

If it isn't then we should remove it. As Jiwi said, pretty much everyone uses 'em.

1 month is a bit harsh if someone was oblivious. Yeah it was there fault for not reading the rules but a warning first might be fairer for something a lot of people do.

 

I think the mentioned 90% is blatantly wrong. I do not participate in piracy or any type of fraudlent software distribution. Maybe I'm just high and mighty, but in my opinion downloading warez is just the same as shoplifting a CD from walmart.

Spoke with Sythe, the rule is mostly due to legal issues, but he said allowing magnet links or something along those lines may be a possibility, but he needed a little time to think it over. I asked him to take a look at the thread after he's given it some thought.

 

We surely can't allow movies/music linked etc. Sythe's servers are on US.

I'd like to see this removed. Infraction is better.

However, I think that if there are no direct links to, for example, thepiratebay, 4shared, bayfiles, etc. There's no need to even infract.

 

Safe harbor, if I'm not mistaken, says that sythe must only remove warez when a DMCA complaint is submitted. Beyond that it must only appear to be actively attempting to remove it. As not making it a bannable offense but rather an infractable one makes much more sense and fulfills the requirements. You could probably even take no official stance/no punishment as long as you comply with complaints.

 

I don't want there to be any doubt about whether or not we support this kind of thing. It's illegal, I don't want us to be like "well, we'll remove it but only if you tell us to". I believe that kind of attitude can very quickly lead to legal action. That being said, we should reduce the ban length

 

Theres no need to really be posting movie links etc, pretty sure 99 percent of the forum knows where to go if they want to go watch a movie online for free.

 

As long as the actual warez are not hosted on the server forum.

 

Reduce the 1 month ban to 1 week and have a message that pops up when they log back in that says what they did wrong, and a button that says "I acknowledge this"

 

The wording of the rule sucks regardless.

 

Maybe in the meantime Clarify the rule as stands, and if applicable (legality) modify the rule and/or ban time.

 

I think it should be reduced to maybe 3 days if we aren't going to allow it, the punishment seems too harsh at the moment.

 

Basically we need to just ban posting copyrighted materials. We should also avoid linking to copyrighted materials due to legal reasons. Discussing it should be allowed. The punishment should not even be a ban. It should be an infraction.

 

If we aren't allowed to post direct links what about link shorteners like goo/.gl links for example? what if we just allow them
