But wouldn't it be better to have accounts that are posting then accounts that are doing nothing at all? The benefits outweigh the risks.

Edit: Also something like choice of fun rank would counteract the decreased enticement of posting requirements.

 

It's a competition, that's what the rank was made for... Also 17 people signed up so far so I don't really see an enticing issue and I don't know how much more official it can be considering its posted by the owner of the forum.

Post count will deter people even more, referring through facebook is easy just posting a link and getting people to sign up its spreading the name of the forum even if they don't sign up or stay. If people find topics interesting they will stay and post but if they don't why force them to post crap on random threads and half these people who post spam won't stay anyways.

Half the people referred wouldn't even post good posts it would be simple things like "lol" on half their threads, then someone would report it and they would get infracted and leave atleast this way you give them the option to stay and become involved or leave.

As I said above this competition looks more like an advertising method considering the links will pop up on facebook, twitter, and other social media sites + word of mouth. The advertising is well worth the loss of people posting spam.

I'm not sure to be honest, it's quite confusing with which referrals come from where. He says to check Sub's referrals. If all of his are indeed fake, he shouldn't have the rank. If they're all legit, or if they were done through a method that was out of his control, I don't have a problem with him having the rank. Either way I'm not bothered.

Also I have a question. I am attending a LAN party tomorrow where I could try and get some referrals, but they would all be under the same IP of course. Should I just avoid doing this to save the confusion?

They wouldn't be able to register. Only 1 account is permitted to register from each IP address, and if you login to your account from that IP, none will be permitted to register as your account will be flagged w/ that IP.

 

Like 20 of my friends had this problem...

In Estonia There is an internet provider that basicly has like 50 IP addresses and each time you log in to the service your IP changes. I have basicly logged in from all of them atleast once, so my friends can't sign up any more
But yeah, still close to the goal.

I could have over 50 referrals if most of my friends didn't use the same internet provider ( which none can use, since I made my account on that service provider and the IP addresses are binded to my username).
