This is an extension of Mohtasa's Idea for Community Participant.
In that thread, Justinkiller came up with a great idea of doing something similar to this:

If they want, you could make smaller variants of the ranks/PiP's so they would look fine aesthetically.

Now I propose that something similar be implemented for less important ranks, such as Community Participant or for those who win the other categories of Member of the Month.

Community Participant - Events like this are largely successful on Powerbot. Why? - They have the Attendee rank. Events like this on Sythe would be unsuccessful as there is no recognition for their participation. A community participant rank where normal ranks exist, such as donor would be misleading. These ranks often indicate trust whereas a community participant rank would be out of place. This subsidiary rank area would be an ideal place to do it and, if noticeable enough people would like it and actually strive to get it, meaning events such as what Mohtasa tried to organize would be more successful.

Member of the Month has its own rank. The smaller categories don't get their own rank, so the idea of them getting a personalized UT was founded. The problem with this is that quite a few of them are already $50 donors or above so they can set their own UT's, and would like a customized one over the given one. A mention in the subsidiary rank area would be perfect.

Other, less important ranks could be added to this as time goes by. Thoughts?

If it's possible it should definitely be implemented. UT's are great but anyone with 50$ donated would probably want their own UT anyway. Like you said, the problem with ranks is the fact people associate them with trust, so not feasible for obvious reasons. A subsidiary rank area is a compromise of the two, and shouldn't symbolise trust in any way, and would satisfy people who want some recognition for their efforts, which is understandable.

It seems like a good idea honestly. If it is small and rather inconsequential I don't see how anyone would say - 'Oh, this person is trusted because of X words!' and then especially if many people have it. The only reason fun ranks means people are trusted is because they're rarely given and only to trusted users, but if this was more liberally given it wouldn't have that trust stigma.

Oh my bad, didn't see it. I agree with the suggestion then if it was implemented in the suggested manner, as I can't see it having any/many negatives, yet it will definitely encourage involvement in the community.

I think this is an awesome idea! It would definitely create a perfect place for ranks that do not signify trust or other market enhancing ranks.

My only concern is whether it's possible, and if it requires any sort of changes or plugins that will break upon the release of-- you guessed it-- the infamous VB4. Other than that, it's a good idea. A nice way to differentiate between separate usergroups, of which the groups aren't really big enough or important enough (for lack of a better word) for its own rank image.

The only reason reason ranks symbolize trust here is because this site hoards over them like they're a pot of gold. If it were up to me I would remove all fun ranks from everybody, including admins, because all it's doing is causing more trouble than fun. Now on that I will say support because it's not an actual rank but more of a indication you are involved in the community.

Support, it promotes incentive in members' gaining involvement without causing much of a back ache to make.

I like the idea, I think it'd be more proper for "community involved" members so they do get some glorification.

I'm no expert, heck I don't know anything about coding for vbulletin but I doubt it would be the toughest thing to implement, it's just displaying an image or text in the userbar (is that what it's called?). It's not exactly re-inventing the wheel since ranks are currently employed, they would just display a different image and in a different place.

I know for a fact that mods exist that can do this, both for vb3 and vb4
granted it's better to wait if no mod that is compatible with both can be found.
