Anouncements Must Be Read

So, basically I was thinking maybe more people would notice a new announcement if they had to read it. Where do I get this idea? I remember being part of a clan that used vb and whenever we had some kind of practice/scrim the leader would post an announcement and the next time you came back to the site it would come up with a box saying you must read this thread before continuing. The reason I think this may be beneficial is because if it is an important announcement which it is most of the time then it will get a much higher view count and may have a higher effectiveness in stopping a scam if that is what the announcement is regarding. Ideas?

Great idea, tbh, in the couple months i've been here i havent even read an announcement, wouldn't even know where to find one.

If someone doesn't care, they won't read it anyways.
We have two types of announcements here, and there are reasons for both that we shouldn't have them manditory.

Site upgrade or promotion: If people don't care, it's not important. These things are happening on their own and not every user has to or will know, it's just something that's not important that everyone in the community knows. I mean when you see n4n0's name with yellow phats next to it, it's pretty obvious there's a news post about his promotion and a bunch of cookie cutter responses.

As for the other type, they're account hackings/financial information. You see them far too often, the "This person's account/msn is compromised." If a user uses safe trading tactics, this won't be an issue anyways. If someone's msn is compromised, they'll be banned and/or have their signature showing that it's compromised. Either way, using pm verification, they'll tell you it's not in their control.
As far as an account being hacked, it'll be banned. There you go.

All in all, I don't think it should be necessary. As a semi-old user, it's never been here and i believe having it would just be annoying.

 

You're thinking of the wrong type of announcements. I am talking about these which could prove vital and permanently decide if someone is scammed.

 

I always read them anyway, and if they can't be bothered to read them, that's their fault.

 

I strongly agree with this. I don't think it should be something that's made it out to be "you must read this". That's much too mandatory and gives the wrong idea. I think it should just be something that's automatically shown when you return to Sythe.

 

Yeah that's the whole point. I mean the announcements atm just blend in too well.

 

Support, if people end up closing the page before reading, is entirely up to them but they have been properly warned.

 

Support, I remember going on a forum where every time there was an announcement, you had to read it before you could proceed. No harm in doing this and it would definitely cut down on the amount of scams.

I'm pretty sure the vB we're running atm supports it. If not it's a must for "vb4"

 

I support this idea. However, I think there should be an option where you can disable it, because not everyone will want to read an announcement and it would become quite annoying.

 

I support this, I've missed a few, just because they blend in so well and later found them by pure coincidence, I also think it'd make newcomers aware it exists.

 

I used a few sites that had this before you could even use the forum. It's a great idea because even if you don't care, it gives you a sense that you are involved.

 

I completely support, I see no downsides to it at all. Implementing this idea only has benefits, which would be less people getting scammed.

I defiantly agree with this! if i ever miss the announcements i always have to go searching for them.. This would be an amazing implement because it would give everyone propper warning for changes or upcomings!

Please read my next to last paragraph again. I clearly discuss this and why nobody should get scammed if they follow trading procedures.

 

Well most of Sythe doesn't use proper trading precautions. If they would there would be no scams now, would there? This is just something that could tip the scale and decide whether someone is scammed or not. If someone doesn't want to read it they can go back to what they were doing, but if they end up getting scammed they won't be able to hold any of Sythe liable because they have been warned.
