Matthew

Matthew rarely gets the attention he deserves so I thought I'd dedicate my 10,000th post to him. Nearly all of what Matthew does is never seen by the public and a great deal is never seen by the staff either. If you want to talk about a behind the scenes guy, it's Matthew. He does a ton of work but most of it simply remains in the shadows unseen by anyone but him.

Not only does he run the donations system, he built it. The face donation center doesn't change very often but the back end has had some serious changes over the years that no one can even notice. Want some good humor? Find the donation system's control panel and you'll be hit with some. Want some more? Click this. Want even more? Well I can't really publicly give more, which is sad.

While I can't tell you what else Matthew does behind the scenes, I can say its pretty fucking awesome. Let's go on a little thought experiment for a second. If Matthew does some pretty awesome shit to the donation center that everyone can see, what do you think he does to stuff that no one can see? If I were you I'd guess some pretty cool shit. Heck, I'll never know half the cool shit he's done and I still know its all da shit. So now we've got the not only running donations, but the system donations run on, epic humor, a bunch more stuff you'll never know about and we're only on his programming! That's just one bag on his belt.

So lets talk about general staff'in. Got some issue? Matthew's very willing to talk about it and help with it. Have an idea? Again: very willing to listen and consider it. Got an idea for donation perks? Seriously, throw up a thread about it because he really does want to get input for new ones. Oh and if you've got a question about something, he'll answer that bitch for ya. Oh, and if you think of a new fun rank he's very willing to consider it if you ask! Now this whole paragraph really has been about staff interactions with him but does that make it less epic? Naw dude.

Now for all of this sneaking around he still doesn't afraid of coming out into the light! He's on IRC now and then and chit chats with anyone. He'll jump into the suggestions forum and discuss some improvements people want. He does this even with all the e-whores running about trying to get a piece of him and you know why I'm saying that this is totally epic? He's a nice guy and wouldn't think of banning everyone who posted on a spam forum thread (see http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=907284 for a great amount of lulz). He's just too nice for that. He just puts up with all the annoying people (like me) and never complains about it.

Oh and did I mention he is a busy guy? Time runs short when you've got to balance the real world and the shadowy world he lives in on here. So to all the haters that have run a muck over the years hat'in on Matthew: Fuck you. You've got nothing on him. So now I think it's time for the most epic (or least epic) ending (slash pun) ever:

Because he's the hero that Sythe deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a Dark Knight...

I've never spoken to any admins beside n4n0 before promotion, but we have much to thank them for. From what I can see, Matthew is as awesome as you say and it's nice to see him getting some recognition for what he does, there isn't much admin feedback except "Good job behind the scenes", but this really shows the person behind the name. I don't have much to say, because I don't know much about Matthew. But I appreciate what he does for Sythe 100%.

Now to comment towards Matthew. I've had the PRIVLEDGE to speak with him here and there. He has a great sense of humor and he's always quick to reply to a PM. I PMed him yesterday asking for access to the Admin portion of the Donation Center (Allowing me to approve UT's and such) and his reply was prompt and he even threw a little bit of a "lul" moment in there with his reply. "Hi n4n0face," he addressed me, before answering my request.

The sheer amount of work that goes into the site that he's had his hands and possibly even his feet in, is absolutely overwhelming. As SuF mentioned, he's been the sole coder and administrator of the Donation Center's backend and frontend. He's always been willing to consider and discuss donator perk possibilities (See here: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1444072 ) and gives clear and concise answers as to why the ideas offered can't or won't work.

Sometimes I wish that more of his work could be seen. Other times, I'm just glad that he's here to do what he does. So, that being said. Matthew, thank you for all you've done. Sythe wouldn't be the same without you.

 

This is true. Mathew is an amazing individual who is rarely thanked for what he does.

Matthew does an immense amount of work for Sythe.org, he definitely deserves more recognition. Also, congratulations on 10k posts.

 

I wanted to create a thread like this when I first started speaking to Matthew regarding helping out for donations. He's EXTREMELY clear about things when you ask him questions, and he responds to PMs fairly quickly, not to mentions donations are being processed really quickly.

Matthew is fucking pro, though I haven't really spoken to him much since I was demoted from staff. He's seems to know anything and everything about vBulletin, the site, or anything to do with I.T. The work on the donations centre is fantastic, and I know he's played a big part in vB4 also. I also want to thank him for rolling out the PayPal donations system. And probably responds to PMs quicker than anyone else on here.

Now let's see if we can get Matthew to post

But seriously, I've had nothing but pleasantries when working with Matthew, he is a lovely, caring person whos always looking in the best interests of the site.

 

Worked with him for over 10k in donations and this guy is extremely easy and chill to work with.

 

I do think Matthew deserves more credit being such an asset to sythe.

By the way lets play Xbox.

I'd have to assume that it counts something that is done in mass as actions which would inflate the number of actions for admins.

 

Are mod actions done by admins counted as admin actions and not mod actions? Or is it admin only actions are counted as admin actions and mod actions by admins are counted as mod actions?

I do agree that Matthew does not get enough recognition from what he has done for Sythe, I've never gotten the chance to talk with him but from what I see he is a really cool guy and he runs things here smoothly for everyone especially with his donations. Hope you continue what you're doing Matthew
