Thoughts on people coming forward after a long period of time and confessing there wrong doings and then asking to be forgiven?

IMO, this is no different then those who get caught scamming and post a pardon and neither should be given a chance. ESP those that have been keeping it quiet for ages and been selfish and for no other reasons then personal gain come forward and asking for forgiveness.

I don't think that coming out changes how bad scamming or whatever the ban reason was. However to step forward and confess definitely does take a lot of guts and it's the right thing to do. Personally, I also feel that it shows a change of character because they're doing the right thing.

Or it could be fear of being caught later on, and being much harder to get unbanned.

    I was just going through the members banned in 2011 and 2012 list. Seems like a lot of sythe staff has been banned for scamming and quite a few confessed to it. It's the right thing to do. You don't have guts for coming forward. You stole and you came forward because your scared of getting caught and the punishment will be lighter if you come out. Your not special for telling on your self, you are still a thief. {Member since 2007, 0 scams}

They need the guts to come forward, and a thief is always a thief, but they are doing the right thing, he confessed, and the someone is still in hiding, they stole something yeah, they scammed a user - But they got the confidence and guts to do it.

Who gives a fuck that they had the guts to come forward lol?

almost everyone that does come forward and expect to be pardoned does it for there own good, not cause they feel bad, considering most of these guys scammed years ago.

Only people i rly think is sorry is the one confessing right after, cause there are situations where people, esp young people break and go for the easiest way out.

How can you know though? Personally I believe in the cases of n4n0 and Wulfspade that they were both genuinely sorry and wished to clear their consciousnesses. They'd both been trusted highly as they were Globals and had a lot to lose when they wouldn't have been caught anyway.

Point is, people mess up when they're younger and it may take them time to understand what they did was wrong. In my case, I'll be frank, I felt that it was like a game and I get free runescape stuff. It took me a year or two to realise that it was real money and it's stealing regardless of how you look at it and today I still feel terrible.

I think the later they come out the more harsher there punishment should be. Its a double bladed sword, sure, people wont ever want to confess if they know they're gonna get a harsh sentence, but i honestly beleive there is huge biast towards pardoning An october 2012 member who scammed in 2011 than pardoning a 2008 member who phished in '07 and has been holding onto it for 5 years.

    How can i know?

a person scamms 1b on the 1st of january, cracks up on the 2nd and returns the money and is sorry. That is actualy regret, going back instantly and cause he feels bad.

A person scamming 1b in 2010 and saying he is sorry for what he did in 2012 isnt remorse, or that he feels bad. It is 100% something with personal gain. If it wasnt for his own good, he would NEVER have come forward. Cause if there was actual proof they would have been banned already.

So it can't take someone more than a day to realise that they did the wrong thing? I personally disagree. Also, if the member refunds even after a year, they still don't have any personal gain.

And majority of them ban evade and wait untill they have 50+ vouches and a year of posts under there belts before coming forward, there are even some upsetting cases where they wait untill there mod like wulf and you know who.

You are far from perfect so no need to bring in names. Will easly make this topic turn into a witch hunt rather then a discussion.

    Brendan:

No not rly it can. I remember looking up graves posts and when he hired people, almost all of them posted a pardon on the site to come clean.

Maybe they gained TONS of trust during those years and the effort to hide there tracks was too much and in order to keep making huge profits due to there buisness on Sythe, it was better cause they were known on the site and would gain tons of support, they could just come clean and profit.

I certainly won't deny that some members may do that. What I'm stating is that I believe there are some members who actually do feel bad about what they've done and finally either accept it or are finally brave enough to confess it, not because they're waiting for the right time where they have the best chance of being pardoned or anything.

Nope, If you feel bad, you should come out right away, you come out cause you feel bad, Not cause it is the best chance for you to get a 2nd chance. Cause then again it is coming out for your own good.

If it takes you years to come forward, it must not feel that bad. If people have the mentality to steal, they will always have it. Just depends on the price, a thief always has a price.

The scams I was pardoned for took place 6-7 months after I started using sythe and by that point I had donated $100 and gained a decent amount of recognition on the site.
There was no proof that I had scammed (I recoverd a couple of accounts) and it's likely there never would have been. I left a clean trail and I knew it. I also knew I had everything to lose as far as trust goes, because it's easy to assume (and I wouldn't be surpirsed at all if the staff or users think this) that if I was able to keep a couple of incidents hidden, what's to say I haven't committed dozens of others? It's an irreparable breach of trust and the only thing I wanted to gain was peace of mind. I couldn't bear the guilt. It wasn't right for me to go on fooling people into thinking I had a clean slate.

But it's all behind me now so all I can do is keep on keeping on :noworry:

Well, I always believe in 2nd chances. People deserve to be forgiven if they are really repentant.

If however, they do scammed a few mils, I say they need to return it to the owner. If that fails, that they maybe donate the equalavant amount to the site for some legit cases.

Tbh, if you get pardoned for scamming, you should have a TWC. Almost everyone that got pardoned for scamming/phishing and whatnot just get a week ban and they're back.
