    We already do this, honestly. Sigex, and similar are always banned once I get around to it. Ban evaders don't normally get to stay around long and I don't tolerate scammers anyway.

    no, he is exactly right. This is one of my reasons why I'd like to host our own servers/go official rather than cookiezzz's planned migration.

    Also, to be quite frank, any capable network admin worth his weight can VERY easily make sure a botnet stays off his/her network, especially with such a small network that Sythe would require. As for the worst behaviour bit, some people just like having fun, if that means linking transsexual amputee porn once in a while, it's all good. As for the hosts that don't allow IRCds, they aren't good hosts.

    No-one bitched. This is based on a ban that there was a dispute over, But its been settled now - pretty sure this was thread is because I PMed him about it.

    and as for that claim, he has all the right to remove 'Sythe' labelled content, or in fact, any content from his own website.

    Clearly the latter. However you cant really compare the two.

    IRC isn't as bad as you may think. Having an official IRC, with actual regulation and Sythe rules, will make it easier to ban/flush out any threats/malicious users. Having an OFFICIAL IRL will also increase the activity of the community as a whole.

    Currently, most people that use the IRC, are either a) from the spam forum b) old members/staff/'famous' members.

    Those demographics are probably 10% of Sythe. If we have an official IRC, it will attract the other 100's of users we have on Sythe. There are 100's upon 100's of users here who don't even know what IRC is, or if Sythe even has one. Having an official IRC, will not only act as an outlet to expand the community, but it will also help us in sustaining members and aid in the growth of the site.

    I understand the negative aspects, really, I do. However I believe the positives far outshine the negatives.

    When you start being an active user of the IRC then you can speak for "us", but until then please do not generalize.

    All of us who use the IRC are active members or staff, with a few oldfags here and there. If they don't already use the IRC then giving it an official title won't change that.

    Well that would be confusingly similar. You'd need to pick something which can't be confused for Sythe.

    Seriously? We've had an official IRC twice before. You should ask some of the oldfags around here what happened. It certainly didn't boost traffic and lead to thousands of additional active members. In fact it was exceedingly similar to the current state of affairs: I think the most people ever in a Sythe.org IRC was about 50, and just as it has in its current incarnation, it lead to a group of people who think the rules don't apply to them, wreaking havoc with the rest of the community.

    And what a ridiculous statement. If you had been operating a business for 10 years and I told you that you have no right to your business name and brand, I think you would rightly tell me that your right arises from the fact of having used it for 10 years.

    Further, the fact that you would use the word 'Sythe' to convey to a customer an association with this site is itself fraudulent, unless we had given you permission to use the brand; It's the same as selling a fake Rolex.
