'Dick' is a general description for an overall attitude, no exact definition no example.

If someone tells me i'm being a dick i know to change my attitude, obviously i'm being rude or obnoxious, regardless, i need to change how i approach people. I would think that part of being a moderator you should be aware of your actions and know when things are inappropriate.

To clarify, from what i've seen your general attitude toward things has been a bit inappropriate, the way you've handled yourself to x339 and the cookiezzz situation (general responses to the thread).

Whether you're being a 'dick' to just x339 or the entire community you're seen as inappropriate to the majority. You're suppose to be setting an example, dismissing others and making negative comments towards just one person gives the rest of the community the justice of doing it to other people.

If you're allowed to talk down to members, other members can to their equals.

The feedback i've given towards n4n0 being more involved in the community and treating people with the same respect as he's given from others is a prime example of this.

tl;dr - I feel as if your overall attitude towards everyone is a bit inappropriate for someone, especially someone with the status you hold.

What does anyone owe to you after the way you approach them?

Generally the people FireZ directs his insults towards are disputers and people trying to be pardoned.

You can google the change of activity within the site. If you look, it's down a lot. Perhaps this is because of the attitude certain staff have towards the population.

Mods nor admins are holy and in no way are better then the average user, some mods display this by treating everyone as an equal; n4n0, FireZ, Sypherz, -Ryan. Others are dismissive and quick to talk down to the average user, showing them their dominance. It's unacceptable and possibly one of the reasons in lack of activity.

 

It's not that difficult. If you want someone to improve, tell them how to improve. Telling them that they're doing something wrong is the first step, telling them exactly what they did wrong is the second. Then giving them suggestions on how you believe the can improve is the third step. It's really not that difficult, but that's how constructive feedback should always be viewed.

Again I don't know where this is coming from, do you have examples? If you're referring to Cookiezzz and/or x339, my relationship with Cookiezzz is much different compared to the average sythe user, I've basically helped co-run his IRC for a year, as for x339.. we've been speaking longer, I feel comfortable in talking to him differently.

I do not talk 'inappropriately' to anybody in public, I joke around in the spam forum like anybody else.

 

The fact is that you guys are putting way too much into the moderator position. You all assume that just because they hold the title "moderator" they must be totally professional all of the time, when they're just normal member who go out of their way to help others.

People are making it sound like a job, when actually its a voluntary position. They voluntarily help keep Sythe a safe environment, and are given the moderating positions because they're active, intellectually able to have positions and have a good attitude.

When, however, someone tells them that they're a dick, this can ruffle anyone's feathers.

x339 - you're a dick

of course, you would ask "Why?", or "How so", but when you have such a large userbase as Sythe does, this can mean that many more people say the same thing to you, and so some moderators develop a "thick skin" and ignore it, rather than ask why - I'm sure you understand how you're taught throughout life to "rise above" such pettiness, yet Sythe forces the moderators to "take all of this on-board". I'm sure this can be very demoralising, and so try and reword your feedback, and questions, so they're not so abrupt and crude.

-Ryan - You're doing a great job. Always been very active, and have been around since you started at Sythe. You've been a great guy from start to present

Cosrob - I like you, but not spoken to you recently. Frequently see you posting around.

Dialatic - Already said - keep it up dude.

Frenzy - Not really had much contact with you, but I see you posting all the time, and you deal with reports actively. Nice job.

Malakadang - I'm afraid I've not seen as much of you as I usually do, but I'm sure that its to do with the fact that I don't really go into the SFA anymore.

MohtasaUnique - Great guy.

Pockets - Had many chats, and sessions of chess with you. Not sure as to what your activity is like, but I'm sure you're still active.

Shoop - I think your choice to remove those threads was the right thing to do. You're a great mod.

Zerkerfist - good mod, haven't seen you recently but I'm sure there's a reason

You do realize that no one actually said "you're a dick", and that it was a metaphor for Karl's method of accepting feedback as a whole.....

The_dealer. I only can get on via iPhone and I work 50+ hours a week. Everyone knows I do alot with my situation.

 

Curious as to when the Avatar Request Thread will be dealt with. I could imagine it wouldn't be too thrilling but it has now been 12 days since the last update.

Again, like I said to Giddy months ago. I'm looking for a decent laptop but I'm kinda strapped for cash. Had to spend $200 on my cat and been sick.
