Community Lovin'

Hello folks.

We're currently in the process of building a community focus team to help reinforce the community spirit around Sythe.org.

To help us kick this off, I'm asking you all what events you'd love to see around the site. We're thinking of things along the lines of:

• Competitions - What kinds of competitions would you take part in? Would you contribute toward a prize for the winner?
• Tournaments - What kind of tournaments would you like to see? What kinds of prizes would you like?
• In-game 'marches' - Which games would work best?
• More? You decide!

Feel free to throw me any suggestions you have, either in this thread or via PM.

Can we get admin as a prize?

 

Game marches won't work.

Tournaments will, maybe a weekly tournament with a game from funorb? Keep it simple and you'll see a turnout.

No idea on the competitions, but if people have good ideas I can see competitions working as well.

Competitions: Basically anything enjoyable, I'm up for new, abstract things.
Tournaments: Games that are easily understandable. I'm giving the current one a go but I'm terrible as there are a lot of concepts to the game that go far beyond simple chess.
In-game 'marches': Basically Runescape or Funorb games. Basically this could be gauged from whichever market gets the most activity. WoW would likely be successful also. I don't really believe in the concept of "In-game marches" but maybe attending an event like a minigame could be successful, it's been done well on PB.

 

Seeing as this is kind of a Runescape community, we should start doing more stuff on RS. Maybe a "who has the most GP on RS" competition, with the prize being global moderator? I could also see us doing a dancing competition where use the emotes on Runescape. Otherwise weekly competitions sounds like the best way to go.

 

Game marches just doesn't sound like a good idea.

As for tournaments, maybe a PK tournament in wildy? Probably would be too hard.

For competitions, you can have a skilling competition for a particular skill. Users can track their XP at XPTracker or another related website.

 

Or we could nominate the cutest member, and have a beauty pageant. I nominate Verts :love:

 

Not everything has to be Runescape related, make events like Karaoke nights on TinyChat or Whistle contests(I think this was done before.) I'm not sure if this would work but maybe a movie night as well. Someone with a good computer will basically live stream a movie that they're hosting on their computer and everyone watches it together and talks about the movie and things like that.

Then of course the tournaments that Superman was doing during the summer such as Haxball or other Funorb games like syed mentioned.

 

We already have IRC movie nights. On another note, I think if you guys want to get everyone to participate in competitions and have them be a "thing" on Sythe, we need to get a lot more organized with them, and have better prizes than just competition winner.

If we can get sponsors, and have a variety of different things that everyone has a chance of being good at, it'll work out.

Some suggestions:

• Scavenger hunt throughout the website
• Give each person a piece of the puzzle and have the community solve it together in groups
• Have people "race" eachother through threads (similar to Wikipedia hitler game)
• Tc contests as you mentioned: breath-holding contest, drawing, helicopter dick, etc

 

Rap battle, drinking contest over TC, ooh and maybe a "NAME THAT SCAMMER" kind of game!!

 

Wouldn't happen. You can't tell if someone would just bot it getting an unfair advantage.

 

How about a botting contest?

 

this stuff and more is what i was doing when i was staff lol..

 

I ran an unofficial version for this month, a little bit like Hahanerd used to do once upon a time. If the staff or this community team wanted to take control of it that'd be okay. It'd be nice to see it go official.

This is actually an amazing idea, if this doesn't happen, maybe an unofficial one could go down, without everyone in the thread getting infracted for flaming. <_<

Scavenger hunt sounds like a fun idea. Why not have competitions/tournaments for different sections of the forum?
