Change the Feedback Section back to how it used to be?

Getting mixed opinions so we might as well settle this issue.


The staff feedback thread, located here ---> http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1411743 is the primary spot for feedback in general and individual mod opinions. Before this thread was made (over a year ago) members used to just make individual threads in the feedback section. Both ways have their pro's and cons and some members have expressed interest in seeing it return to the old way.

So please post your thoughts and logical arguments or the way you prefer.

 

I think we should go back to the old way. The Staff Feedback thread is specific and you can't make forum comments related to your staff comment without getting off topic. Also the thread can be overlooked and some feedback gets no response as well, a user created thread, for lack of a better word, forces staff to notice and reply to specific feedback.

 

There's really not too much to give your feedback on other than staff. I don't see the point of the section unless it allows staff feedback as well.

I mean, you could leave feedback on site design, forum structure, new updates, etc... But those get old quick and the section dies (like how it is now).

 

Could have every staff member make their own thread.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing this, but then when there is feedback about say, the Donation Centre or a staff decision on the whole or some aspect of the website itself it'd make the thread difficult to see.

I'm personally fine with how it is.

 

I think each staff member with a thread is ideal. The general section would be used for general feedback and comments on site-related things then.

 

Personally I believe the feedback section is a bit... Weird.

There's barely anything to say apart from the moderators are doing good/bad. The staff thread itself is necessary but I think it needs a revamp. For the life of me I can't think how to alter it successfully however.

 

Kinda agree with Jack, in my opinion theres not much to do. I agree that it might be useful to have each mod just make their own feedback thread (think thats how they do it on powerbot), but general feedback like Brendan said might be missed.

However in my opinion the general feedback section is pretty much dead, the only thing major here is the staff feedback thread, so i would agree with having each moderator make their own thread.

 

I still think it would be a little weird having each Staff Member with their own thread. Perhaps if when the Feedback forum is opened, you get the option to choose between the Staff Feedback subsection and the General Feedback subsection? I'd be okay with this. I don't want regular feedback to be ignored, it does also play a role.

If this happens I guess it does also open the option to have the Staff Feedback thread not give post count. I like to give everyone a chunk of feedback once ever few weeks or month and doing so means creating something like 15-20 separate posts.

 

I think what we have now is fine to be honest, if someone wants to give feedback/start a discussion on a recent decision the staff has recently made, or the way they do something, just make a new thread in feedback. I think threads for each staff member would just look untidy really.

 

Each staff member shouldn't make their own thread... What the hell, lol.

The old way was much better, you could have multiple discussions spawn from one feedback post, and honestly it creates a better dynamic between staff and users, as rather than replying with "Wrong thread for this." they have to speak up for their actions/fellow mods' actions and explain why they or another staff member did what they did.

EDIT: Also, to all the people saying general feedback will be ignored, do you honestly know how many people make general feedback posts? It's probably like 1 thread every 4 days, it won't be ignored, it wasn't ignored before.

 

I didn't necessarily mean ignored purposely, I meant if there is a bunch of staff feedback threads there, they'd clog up the forum a bit and other threads will be everywhere and it'd look messy and the threads may be skipped. That's why i recommended subsections.

 

As I said before, they weren't ignored before. And honestly subsections is a bad idea, considering the section is already dead. Instead of having the whole section dead, we'd just have a subsection dead.

They weren't ignored before and I can tell you now it won't be ignored if it's changed. There's just too small of an amount of those threads to warrant a subsection, imo.

 

I like this idea.

The only thing I find a little bit to be a pain is keeping the list of staff members updated on the original post.

 

As for the specific threads for each staff member, I can't see this idea solving any problems, except causing the same issues on a larger scale.

Sometimes you want to post feedback on multiple mods, so are you going to find each staff member's thread and post on it?

Although I can see how it will show the people who are less community involved as they'd get less feedback and their threads would be considerably smaller, other than that I don't see how that solves the problem.

Honestly as a section it's unnecessary, anything not related to staff belongs in suggestions anyways. I'd say make a subsection of the suggestions forum for staff feedback and let each staff member have a thread.

lolwut. We know that, no one has stated otherwise.

Although I see where you're coming from, there are certain things not related to staff and also can't be called a suggestion that would classify as feedback and the section should stay, we should just remove the staff feedback sticky and post in the forum like it was in the good old days, when people shat rainbows and everything was beautiful.

 

I think it's better if it's all on one thread, otherwise the topics that would show most of time in the feedback section is staff feedback, this all can be done in one thread to avoid that problem.

 

I highly agree with Syed's suggestion, from what he's told me the feedback section used to be for individual threads, which seem's much more useful in the sense it will motivate staff more when they have a single thread posted about them rather then a line or two of text on a huge thread for everyone, apart from that when there is a member of staff who isn't up to their Job or activity, a singular thread can be made which will not make the other staff members feel like they are being criticized as a full.
