    Dear sythe.org gfx enthusiasts,

    Our transition to VB4 is being held up by style issues. In short we cannot import our existing style into VB4, and efforts to convert it manually have been largely unsuccessful.

    Therefore I propose a competition to redesign the nextgen lite style (the default sythe.org style) for VB4. We're not looking for a direct port of the style, but rather a re-envisioning of it; new and shiny. Everything you always hated about the style can be remade, and everything you always liked can be made better.

    Winner's style will be used on sythe.org after transition to vb4. Winner will also receive a competition winner rank and their name on the style (so instead of nextgen it will be 'your name' style, provided your name isn't obscene.) Depending on the quality of submissions there may also be runner up prizes.

    I'm not sure if you guys are able to provide your own infrastructure for working on vb4 styles. If you can't, let me know, and we can post some tutorials on how to set up a local copy of vb4 to work on styles. Although I'm sure you guys can post eachother tutorials equally well.

    We'll run the competition for two weeks until the end of September, unless people generally think this is too short a time, in which case we'll extend it to mid October.

    When the competition is up we'll put all the submitted styles on a public copy of VB4 and have a site-wide vote on which style is the best.

    I'm terrible with graphics and whatnot, but I really hope someones able to whip something up for Sythe. I'm so excited for vB4! Even though I'm not good with this sort of thing, if anyone needs an opinion or some sort of help shoot me a message and I'll see what I can do :)

    What if two members of the Sythe community hope to team up? Is this not possible. I ask this mainly for one reason: vBulletin is very time consuming and designing and coding a new style would be a full time job if it was to be made bug-free. So, I was asking if me and a bud could team up, I design, he codes, so we both don't have to overwhelm each other. :p If this isn't possible, please let me know. :)

    I'd be keen to submit something but I'm not sure about the "infrastructure" etc necessary to make a skin that will fit. If a tutorial of this nature were to be provided I'd do my best. Also, if it were to be extended a little into October that would be appreciated as I'm pretty much held up with mock exams and assessments for the next 2 weeks. :/

    EDIT: Sounds like a large under-taking that I'm not confident in. If anyone else decides to take this on I could "team up" with them on the graphics side of things but I know nothing VB related

    I really don't think anyone knows how to do it, let alone willing to dedicate endless hours to completing a skin to possibly win a competition winner rank. If you want I can go ahead and order a redesign from a professional website for you. I was planning on donating a few hundred in the coming months anyway, so this would be a better way to actually help the website. (edit) Looks like someone expressed interest above. Anyway, I guess we can see how this goes, and if it doesn't work out we can go with my plan B.

    I honestly think a team for it would be better than having single people submitting. Honestly though the work you would need to put in compared to what you get outta it seems kinda bleh.
