I was thinking of getting an Amazon Kindle.. Amazon released a line of new Kindles and I was contemplating on getting the new Kindle Paperwhite.
I am not an avid reader but do read a few self-help books from time to time and feel like an e-reader would be a good buy for me since it's not too expensive($120) and will be easy for me to carry around. However, I noticed that the Kindle version of books are usually priced the same as paperbacks and used books can be bought for a lot cheaper instead...sometimes even 20% of the price of a paperback.

Does anyone on Sythe currently own a Kindle and cares to give his/her input?
And is there any way I could get eBooks for free?

    Thanks

You can always pirate e-books, though since that kind of thing isn't allowed on Sythe I won't discuss it any further. However, since the release of tablets and e-readers, the "market" for pirated e-books has skyrocketted so it'd be hard to not find what you need.

In the end it's up to you. You can either carry your kindle around and pay for the extra fees (also have the risk of it getting stolen) BUT would have an entire library in your pocket, or you can buy used books but would only be able to bring 2-3 at a time. Obviously nobody is going to steal your used books, so that's an added bonus too.

My mum has the kindle, yeah its a pretty cool little 'gadget' to have on you and if you have the money (you sound like $120 is no sweat off you back:p) you might aswell go for it, makes you look cooler than carrying around a book ;) But seriously, if you're happy just reading a book you might aswell do that, save you a lot of money. Iv'e used it a few times just on train journeys and stuff and its pretty cool and i'd recommend it, thats assuming you really don't want to carry a book around :p

EDIT: Sorry I really have no idea about the pricing of the eBooks, I told my mum what book I wanted to read and she got it for me haha (sounding like a spoilt little shit, im really not).

It does look pretty good, but have you considered just purchasing an Android tablet instead? There's a few cheap ones online. I have one myself, cost $120 AUS a couple of months ago.

Basically it's the same as an android phone but you can still view eBooks and whatnot on it. Access to the Amazon Bookstore, can just download PDFs, everything. Plus you get to take your music on the go, play games, go on the internet if there's wifi, everything. Just no big name brand.

Exactly what I was trying to find out. Haha I was quite hesitant to ask directly because of that so thanks for sharing with me :)

Oh no lol. $120 is quite a lot but I feel like it's a fair price to pay for a device like this. I also feel like I'll be able to read a lot more if I get an e-reader so that's just another bonus.

Not really a fan of Android >_< And I don't really want a colored tablet because I don't really need one. Just an e-reader will be fine.
I was actually deciding between the kindle and nook but decided to go for the kindle because Amazon has great customer service and the kindle is fully integrated to Amazon.

I guess I'll wait for a couple of reviews on the Paperwhite before making my final decision but it's more than likely I'll be purchasing it.

My mum had one for her birthday last year, she loves it. You can pirate them as Blupig said but not all books are available to pirate on the net. Google can pretty much help you out with that.

As for the Kindle itself, it's really good, I personally prefer real books, but if you an expert reader, or you just read a lot of books, then the Kindle might be for you. The battery lasts for ages also, so you don't have to worry about the battery.

Not really an expert reader by any means but I've seen many positive reviews about the kindle and really wanted one when they released the Paperwhite.
Not many people in my school read so I'd definitely feel more comfortable reading off a kindle than looking like a nerd..lmao. The integrated dictionary feature on the Kindle will come in handy for me too!

You might aswell just go for it if thats what you're buying it for, reading is something good to get into so if it might 'motivate' you as such, then get it :p

I have the kindle with the keyboard, and it kicks ass. I am an avid reader, which is why I got it, and I believe it is one of the best inventions ever. They have like 2 month long batteries, and you can read it in the sun which is awesome.

The cheapest one is like $70 so at that price, why not?
