What is PDFLock?
PDFLock is an application developed by myself to prevent guide leaking on Sythe.org. It's a safe way for the PDF seller to control who has access to their eBook or guide and who doesn't.

Features

Lite Version -
The Lite Version is fairly basic, but still offers good protection. It requires a Sythe.org login upon starting the application. Once the user tries to log in, it will check a list of buyers that the PDF seller controls. If the user attempting to log in is in the list, they will be able to view the PDF. If not, they will be denied access.

Pro Version (In Development) -
The pro version will offer the same authentication feature as the lite version, and a few more leaking prevention features. The print screen key will be disabled, and any processes that could potentially take screenshots of the eBook or guide will be disabled.

How will this work?
PDFLock will be sold for cheap on a per-file basis. You will not be able to buy an infinite license, you will have to buy a specialized copy of PDFLock each time you want a new PDF protected. The reason for that is that the security features are a bit tricky to make completely user-controlled, so I have to change a few bits of the code each time a copy is sold to accommodate the new PDF. People who buy PDFLock will have to PM me a copy of their guide to embed in the application. Upon doing so, instructions will be sent on how to control the buyer list.

Perhaps you could also develop something like this for software protection?

 

I have, it'll be included on my new name checker. Unfortunately it'll only be available for .NET languages, but does in fact work with Mono so it's cross-platform.

What stops people from buying a guide, reproducing it exactly as how it is and releasing/leaking it? This makes no difference at all.

 

They'd have to type it out again word for word. Lots of people wouldn't even bother especially for lengthy guides.

 

While it isn't a measure to completely remove the problem it certainly helps. What some people had done is that every PDF they sell get's a unique ID written on it (obviously not seen by the common eye) associated with the person to whom it was sold so if someone decided to leak the guide/resell it then they would instantly know who it was and they would be able to take the right measures.

 

What's cool about my auth system is that you can not only find out who leaks it, but you can deny them access to their copy by removing them from the buyer list that my application checks on login.

 

How does it find who leaked it?

 

They would be sharing the application along with their sythe username and password.
