Runescape is NOT "Turning into WoW"

This always angers me when people say this. Half the Runescapers who say this haven't even played WoW.

How is it anything like World of Warcraft?
If people are referring to the abilities and action bar, then every other MMO is lumped into the same category.

If someone can please prove me wrong, I would love to hear your argument.

 

im glad someone else has spoken out about this. Runescape came out first in a way most/all mmo's have ripped off RS. People who claim its like WoW are just whiny bitches who heard someone else say "world of wowscape" or something lame like that and are just repeating it. Runescape changing and getting any more complex than the most basic of hack and slash bs is always going to get the WoW comparison now, im fairly sure its just because wow is the most popular mmo. not because it actually has many similarities.

 

I agree. I for one am looking forward to the Evolution of Combat, because PvP and PvM will no longer be based off money and luck, but skill. But back to the topic, I've played WoW for years and I know the difference between the two, and the only reason people think they will be the same is because of the action bar like you mentioned.

 

Their updates are starting to make it seem like that, in a couple years it would not surprise me if it does.
Right now, you are right, it does not look anything like World of Warcraft. I still play WoW once and a while (but its expensive), and RS I do have to say its beginning to look like WoW little by little. Which the reason why, they see high competition with Activision Blizzard, Inc who currently have a few million active subscribers.

I am actually going to quit rs because of EoC update, and will be playing on a WoW private server (since I can't afford $15/m for a game).

 

it will actually be very much like wow compared to what it use to be, and yes obviously there are other games that have action bars etc. but the reason it gets compared to wow is because EVERYONE knows what wow is. there are no other mmo's even close to being as well known as wow.

 

They are copying WoW in my opinion. Whats that? They now added a TRANSMOG SYSTEM INTO RUNESCAPE? Lmfao. Get real.

 

Runescape is turning into WoW. Don't be stupid, they are only doing this change because it is turning it more into the games that have MASSIVELY outdone RuneScape, it's a desperate bid to improve the PVP element to that of WoW/LoL. Nothing more. WoWScape is gonna suck.

 

I disagree honestly. WoW is a great game, obviously beats runescape in many factors. But, runescape is far from ever sucking, or being a bad game. Most people I run into that can't adapt to change aren't very good at runescape. Wether it be pking, pvm, or skilling, they just don't get it and aren't good at it.

Runescape has a very good pking system, and the beta is actually very, very amazing. I would mainly look at ignorant players that can't adapt to changes such as when Runescape 2 launched from classic. Players couldn't accept it, they made riots, they quit, they moved on. Guess what? Runescape was absolutely astounding in 2006-2008, people loved it, all those that quit in 04, quickly came back. See its not logical to say that wowscape is going to be bad. It's just your incapability to adapt to a better system, which in my personal professional PVP experience, it is far superior to the current and past versions of runescape. I have played against the best in wow, runescape, league of legends, and bloodline champions and from my experience, having action bars and the ability to setup combos, curses all at once, are just absolutely amazing. It puts everything that is needed back in runescape.

So it's not that its going to be bad, its just going to take more skill, learning and better reaction time. Factors like these are just......hard for some people......but they will get it eventually. Also I have found the leveling experience will be much funner for newer players, something you should take into account for the future of the game itself.

I am sorry if you don't like the new system but I guarantee you will adapt once you truly understand how good it is. And if you can't you will find a new game, but 99% of the time thats not the case.


Time changes, new generations of players come and things must change for them to want to play. You played in 04, thats 8 years ago, thats an entire new line of players. Adapt or die thats how it is and always will be.


also I have a huge ego in runescape pking, I have beat every good pker up to taco limey and beyond.

 

imo rs's pvp setup is far superior to wow or LoL the only game that I would say has it out beat is diablo 2 [assuming no one uses mods ] its all really evenly matched or really outmatched depending on what type of gear\build you use,. games like wow base it around if you have the most expensive gear in the game you win.

I'm just annoyed that RS is so damn laggy because they're fixing what isn't broken. It's a browser based game. How can they even dream of competing with something like WoW? (regarding technology, not fun/community wise)

I've never played WoW but I have played many MMORPGs such as Rappelz (I still play this sumtimes) Shayia online, Silk Road Online and a few others. And yes ALL of them had the "skill bar" as I call it. And I think this could be a good addition to the game. The many times I've quit RS to play these other RPGs was simply cuz I liked their setup better but always come back to RS cuz the other games are all about combat, theres no other skills! People are always complaining that RS isnt as good as other RPGs, but as soon as they add an element that 90% of all other RPGs have people complain about that too. I dont think people are against as much as they say, I think they just want something to bitch about. Just imagine the awsomeness of Rappelz (where the only thing to do on the game is join dungeon parties, kill mobs, level up, spend points on new combat skills and repeat) but with the many different skills in Runescape!

The games are completely different aside from the MMO genre in which all of their games are (Hotbar etc)

im sitting on rank 1 in 3s, and my guild vodka cleared heroic dw , my rogue has legendary daggers ect.

i logon for 10 minutes ride around stormwind talk shit to people that i farmed in 3s and logoff.

i logon runescape and pk for 6-7 hours because its addicting as fuck

WoW beat RS to 'it' at a lot of things.
Not saying RS is turning into WoW, however lets say for example, RS, in some time adds mounts into 'summoning', there would be this same scenario all over again.
Just because WoW had something first, it doesn't give all the kids the right to say RS is copying WoW.

and from my point of view, even though I don't play WoW anymore but I play RS, WoW is a much better game, I mean, I just got 99 Ranged on RS and since I havn't logged it because the repetivity and time it takes to actually get a 99. WoW is much more skill based and you don't have to worry too much about all the money nor losing your items, jee
