    Quiting Smoking.

Im 18 years old been smoking since i was 14 or 15. I just broke all my cigarettes( and related items ) and tossed them in the bottom of the trash. Iv decided its not worth it. It wastes so much money the heath risks are just not worth it. Im still young and have a chance. Consider this thread a kind of quit smoking log. Ill update it daily on how im doing. If you want you can also share some stories of your own on your efforts to quit smoking.

Wish me luck:( Its going to be a rough road ahead.:'(

Edit: I also quit smoking weed 2 years ago that was a breeze went from smoking daily to never touching the stuff again, cigarettes(unfortunately) wont be so easy.

Good luck, you'll need it. I know you can do it, though!

Just in case if you haven't already done so, but try to find something to do before one of your urges hits you, and when it does, do that thing to distract yourself from it. Hope that helps!

As a pack a day smoker I feel your pain I quit for two days , twice. I find the best route is to plan non stressful days a head of you and do something extremely time consuming.

    - Reading.
    - Gaming
    - Movies

Anything you would have put off smoking for half an hour or so before. I find that is better not to do any extraneous work, I always want some after outside chores and the like. Of course, I am not a success story so take this as you will.

You can do it man, just don't give up! I can also tell your from experience that it does get easier as you go along.

I just 'relapsed' and bought a pack of cigarettes a couple of days ago after not smoking for nearly 2 weeks. Maybe that doesn't seem that long to you, but I've been smoking about a half pack a day (that is 10 cigarettes at least) for the last 2-3 years straight. Going cold turkey for 2 weeks was a last minute decision that I had not prepared for, and I am proud for even making it that far.

I am not even too disappointed about caving in and buying a pack, because it feels a lot nastier this time around. It is amazing how just 2 weeks without inhaling smoke all day actually makes you feel pretty good & healthy, and so when you start smoking again it feels really disgusting during those first few cigarettes. I finished my last smoke from that pack at 4:00 AM this morning, and I do not plan on buying another one immediately :)

    Good Luck

I had quit for a month and my cravings were gone. Then i went on a night out and got really drunk and thought it was a good idea to take a few drags. The next day i was craving so bad i bought a packet and have smoked since.

Longest I've managed to quit was for a week. I just avoided all stores/places where I could buy cigarettes. Then after a week I went out, drank 2 beers, and before I realized it, I was smoking again.

The hardest part in my opinion are those moments on which I've conditioned myself to smoke. For example while I'm waiting for public transport, before an exam, when I'm out drinking, after eating, when I'm bored, in the morning while I drink coffee... The list goes on and on.

Tl;dr Try to avoid temptation, stay busy.

It's easier to quit if you have a definite reason too, e.g someone you love dislikes it, the fact you are harming the ones you love around you etc.

What could help with the oral fixation is perhaps lollipops or something similar.

Good luck to you sir, smoking is so bad in many many ways.

    Just constantly remind yourself:

1.) Its a complete money burner
2.) Its very bad for your health
    3.) Its extremely unattractive
4.) It will make your clothes/breath reek

    Dare i go on?

    Good luck mate.
As a smoker I congradulate you on taking this step in quitting. Its definitely a hard one. Cold turkey is by far the hardest way.

If you find yourself smoking a cig anytime soon, dont be dissapointed. Do NOT put yourself down. These things are addictive for a reason. You might not succeed quitting the first time. It may take you a few tries to. If you can do it in one go, then I applaud you. Just keep that in mind though.

If you just cannot stop cold turkey, there are many other ways that can help aid you in quitting. Theres the patch, the gum, the e-cig which i hear is very effective, there's also medication which can help, although I don't know if I would suggest that one. Just know you are not alone and you clearly have a lot of support here.

Keep us update, and take it 1 day at a time.
