Who knows. He's in the democratic party so those bigot republicans who hate "fags" wouldn't be voting for him either way.

Well, like they article says, there's an incoming generation of younger, socially conscious people who, for the most part, are pretty accepting of people regardless of sexual orientation, so I don't see foresee it harming him. Of course he'll probably take some heat from the old guard, but I personally applaud his decision. It's the 21st century, and we have bigger problems to worry about.

 

People are making this into a bigger deal then it is. The only people who find this upsetting are the 50+ year olds who are still living in the days where the great God all mighty rules with an iron fist.

I am glad that so many people are accepting of this because honestly its just another pointless issue that we really don't need to worry about with so many other things going on in the world.

Just as a note: About 70% of people under 30 support gay marriage. That number will increase as time goes on and the percent of the entire population will also rise as the old religious hags die off.

 

Yeah once the latter generation die off there will be hardly any opponents to this proposition.

Their problem is they are stuck in the past whereas traditions and ways of life have changed dramatically.

Good. His campaign motto is "Forward" and going forward and accepting people for being different wether you support them being gay or w/e is the right way .

Accepting all factors of society and acknowledging "gays" is a massive step forward. I fully support him and wish him all the best in his campaign. All the people who are going to vote against gay marriage are republicans anyway.

 

Hasn't be always been "pro" gay marriage but just kept his mouth shut during the campaign because he didn't want to lose the votes from those who would be spooked by his being for gay marriage. I think it's about time he spoke up, it was enough with him sitting back and being silent about it.

 

I feel like this was bound to happen at some point. Great timing with the whole North Carolina thing but he actually seemed legit about being for it. I can't wait to see Romney's stance on it because this almost forces him to be on the other side. And if he is it will bring in to question his religion that is his weakest point.

 

It's been pretty clear that Obama has supported gay rights for a while, going by his actions and things he's said in the past. I'm glad he said this, but his timing makes it seem like his intention was to gain votes/supporters for the upcoming election. I can't really complain though. I love that gay rights are becoming more and more accepted, at least in the United States.

 

I don't think it was entirely political. To me it seems like he knew everyone deserves rights but his faith was making him think differently and not completely support gay marriage but instead support their rights.

Very true. NY has gay marriage and I was very happy when it passed and now I'm like... When was that again? Honestly... My life has not changed at all.

I'm not gay but I am 100% for gay marriage, I see no reason why anybody should even have a say in it, it has nothing to do with them if two people are happy.
