2011 Gold Trader Power Rankings!!

Yes indeed, I am very aware that you are the top playerauctions seller and I do applaud you for your dedication in that particular area. You run a fantastic business yourself and I do consider you to be a very noteworthy seller. This thread in particular focuses on the bulk gold buying section, and like you said you are definitely under represented there because, also like you said, you farm a significant amount of your own gold. For this reason, I did not consider you to be one of the biggest competitors--however, I have no doubt that you made significantly more profit than many people on this list!

Again, if I was focusing on the gold selling section or in overall profit the rankings would be significantly different and, again, like you said, you would be quite highly ranked. However, I hope you understand that this ranking focuses on the gold buying section.

No matter where the list ends, there will be people who feel like they should be on it. Be that top 5, top 10, top 15, or top 20. Again, this is mainly my perspective and I am definitely open to alternative rankings within the top 10 list that I have composed. Thank you for responding

In this case it seems we must agree to disagree. I think you are accurate on the criteria listed above and who would win between the two of them; however, to me I considered Video to be a larger competitor within the gold buying thread which explains my ranking. Thanks again for responding to this thread!

 

Yes I completely understand what this list was in regards to. I think its great that you made it because its fun and gives sellers something to compete for. It would be cool if there was something like a monthly report, who's up and coming and who's falling etc.

 

Okay, well most of you don't know me but I am pretty respected by some people.

I'll rank this in 2 sections. People who made the most trades/well known, and people who I consider the most legit and most respected to go to.

I'll also add some input to the initial list. I know Arcus is fairly new (well not so much anymore), but imo he should be ranked a lot higher. Although I can not say for certain because I am rarely in the buying section, I can only go by word of mouth. People will randomly message me on msn asking if i'm buying gp. When I reply no the only 2 common responses I really get are "ok i'll ask viou" or "ok i'll ask arcus" and occasionally h1's name comes up. Although its hard to judge a person's buying ability just by that or his buying thread's popularity because like (i'm assuming) in R2's case he already has his large base of loyal sellers and doesn't need to advertise to reach out to many more. Its every buyer's dream to have loyal sellers to avoid having to pray every morning that some random is going to message them to sell 1b

I never really thought of Nick as a big trader, although maybe it was at my beginning when he stopped. I would probably put dorianking in the list instead of Nick anyway. I have personally sold bils to dorian XD

 

I agree putting me #9 seems a bit low on the list, but at the same time I only began in July and spent a bit of time with problems on Sythe that finally subsided in September (where I was finally able to seriously begin trading). If the list were for 2012 I'd probably be 1st-3rd but I'll accept that for now I am deserving of only #9.

Very impressive PA sales, kmjt. Remember, several sellers on that list do not use PA as a primary payment method. We use it for only 5-10% of our orders. So it should certainly not be looked at as the only criteria for sales volume.

 

Ok, I'm sorry, how is kmjt above kevin and h1. I sold kevin (within a few months) easily 50B+.. h1j has a single vouch for 45B.

What you're BLATANTLY not understanding is, this is over 2011.. Not just towards the end (what you obviously know of)..

I also gained well over 1000+ vouches on SYTHE alone from gold trading.. No, I wasn't a "huge buyer". I very rarely bought more than 2-3B a day.. I didn't trade but any where else on Sythe during that time.. That just easily shows how much I was able to move on Sythe; in my time of glory. If we're just going to go with buyers (seems like what we're doing), then that's a bit ridiculous.. It shouldn't just be about volume size trades.

I lost atleast $10,000 in 2011 from wipes/hacking/chargebacks. I built my entire reputation from gold trading in 2011. I started with $500 and about 50 vouches.

I still was easily in my day one of the best actual SELLERS on Sythe. Not sure how that's not being recognized. Especially considering I didn't have video's magic gift of PP.

Kevin, h1j, jevon, arcus, king tijn, and partially nick/viou never really sold on Sythe. Except for when Viou/Nick were doing their whole mail bit. Even when I came back to gold trading in November, I still outsold quite a few people.

 

Aha yeah, I can almost guarantee I have the least direct paypal sales among anyone mentioned in this thread. But I value my paypal very much seeing how its the only way I have at the moment to collect disbursements from PA. Take away my paypal and i'm basically out of a job aha.

If this list is in regards to total gp traded through both buying and selling it is very off, no offense. I would be at the bottom because as I said I farm the majority of my gp, meaning to make the same profit as the top traders I don't have to sell nearly as much as them. Arcus would probably be #2 imo with R2 or video or kevin 3rd.

To be honest I never even knew Nick was a gp merchant. I always thought he just sold what gp came in from donations and from that gave it to Sythe.

 

As the title states, these power rankings are about Gold Trading. That encompasses both the buying and selling forums. Both forums are linked intricately, and therefore for these Power Rankings to be relevant, they should include both of them.

Right now there is some ambiguous term of "power" that Viou is attempting to quantify through his rating system. However, in economics, Market Power is defined as the difference between Selling price and Market price. Or in terms of the buying forums, Buying price and Market price. Therefore, if you truly want to award the users who are the most "powerful", then you should still be looking at both forums. You can drop prices of company buyers by 5-10% temporarily, but if we are able to sell 2-3B per day at retail, then who cares?

However, I think it's a lot simpler to just rank people in terms of their success in Buying/Selling, or separate them between Buyers and Sellers.

I lost severe activity in the last 6 months of the year, so I'm not really in any position to say who's who.

 

I'd like to throw my 2 cents out and say that gold trading is more than just profit.

I know this was predominantly based on the bulk gold buying section, and more so on who made the most profit, however profit is a small key into a business, and a successful business is much more based on just profits.

I don't know why you have someone like Kingtijn so low, the asian companies and people have the BEST customer service and accessibility, there is no doubt if anyone wanted easy gold as fast as possible, they need someone they can rely on.

Surely there are other companies out there in the world (for other products) who vow to "doing it for the customer" so to speak. They would sacrifice profits to make customers in the end happy, and maybe even than increase profits as they come back.

Accessibility, reliability, customer service, speed? are all up there with profit, and i'm sure someone like kingtijn would raise much higher if that was the case as his been providing such services consistently.

 

^ If it isn't the goal of a business to maximize profit, they might as well turn non-profit. Even when businesses have their "special" holiday sales with lowered prices, in the end they got more customers, and more profit in the end. They just get to use the holiday as an excuse. I remember when rsbots.net had all of their ridiculous holiday sales. 20% off on mothers day lol. Businesses give away free stuff but in the end they are getting good advertisement. When do businesses not mass advertise that they are giving away free stuff? Unadvertised sale?.. only to have your employees tell every single person in the store weeks before it happens, which in turn they tell their friends etc. (word of mouth advertising) In the end they did it for profit.

The most successful business is one that turns the most profit in the end ensuring its longevity, unless they go completely non-profit.

There is a correlation between all of those and profit. It is assumed that whoever makes the most profit will be high in most of those facets.

I was a noob when this beast was in business. Lol.

As kmjt said, let's not kid ourselves here and say that king tijn, or anyone for that matter, is not primarily concerned with making money. That isn't a bad thing either. Making money means keeping customers happy. The incentives are aligned for good service when chasing profit in a competitive landscape.

This is the business of selling RS Gold, not providing clean drinking water to Africa. Let's not glorify the situation and say people are doing it purely on good-will. They do it to earn a living. Just like 99.9999% of other people do their jobs everyday to earn a living (unemployed aside). There need not be a negative connotation beside turning a profit with your business.

 

For the record I have 150/150 positive feedbacks on PA, the last one dating to August 10th, and I'm glad to see that the ranks have been updated

 

My margin for sales is too large to be anywhere close to the top 10 of this list, but it's a great post Viou. The criteria is very detailed and you (of course) know this market better than anyone else.

For 2012, I'd have to say Arcus owns the hell out of the market, but congratulations to all who are on the list.

 

Why is hahanerd not getting atleast an honorable mention? He primarily was just a face and not as much an established business (few of you know what I'm on about). He still did trade alot.

 

Wasn't he previously partnered with dorianking (who got an honourable mention)? I know both of their names using to be in the same buying thread title.

 

He was but he was loads more than that. He did more solo than anything.
