    WTF just happend...

so today i was on runescape and somebody came up to me and asked me if i wanted his account for free. I'm like sure so he pmed me the username and password. Surprisingly it worked. I got on the account for a second and when i went to the runescape website to change the password my computer got its first blue screen of death.

is this linked in anyway? did he somehow trace my ip or something through the last login server on the runescape login screen?

    thanks

EDIT: ok he recovered his account in less than 10 minutes. Meaning he somehow knew my pass i changed it to? how could he possibly change it back so fast? Because i know that recoverys take a while and password change takes like a second

Must've been a coincidence, I doubt an RS user and password can cause a PC to blue screen. If you have the error code saved, look it up and see what caused it.

but a coincidence? couldn't the user check my ip and somehow do this to me through the last login screen?

    thanks

He could have checked your IP, but there's no way he could have crashed your computer with just your IP that quickly

There's no way he could have crashed it at all even with his IP, lol. The only thing you can do to someone if you have their IP is DDoS/ping them to death. If you're unaware of what that means, it only affects the internet connection and not the computer itself.

Ping of death does crash you computer however Windows XP and newer don't have this problem.

This must have been a coincidence.

Just a coincidence. You can't DDOS someone to blue screen or send viruses by only knowing their IP.

but what about the password change? how did he do it so quickly? don't recoveries take about 24 hours? or did he somehow find out my changed password and changed it himself?

seems like the poor guy got hacked, and the hacker just gave you his account details.

He had all the account details, he was the original owner, which is why he managed to recover it so fast.

With the correct recoveries you can claim an account back in under 10 minutes easily.
As for blue screen of death... Would have been solely coincidence. No virus/malware can be given by logging on to a Runescape account...

They keep record of the IP Address used to create the account and the most recent IP Addresses used to access it, when you go to recover an account it checks the IP address your using to recover with the one that created the account and if it matches you can get the account back withing seconds of submitting the appeal.

About the fast password change: he could have also had a pending appeal. Nowadays, password appeals are successful, then they email you a reset form. The password only changes once they finally do the reset form. Theoretically, he could have done the password appeal hours/days before. To be honest, it looks like he was trying to scam you---giving you a good account, having you put your bank on it, him stealing it back.

your computer must have some type of hardware failure and the rs account is owned by some 12 year old that wants someone to put millions onto the account.
