He is only as knowledgeable and skilled as his current level of expertise in botting. He will need to follow the trend of macroing if he is to be an asset to Jagex.

I do not agree with this post.

He did what he thought was the right thing to do regardless of what other people thought. He now has a job in which he can further his skills.

Eh, that's life for you. As far as programming salaries are concerned (can be upwards of $100k/yr), I doubt he was making a competitive wage with his little Runescape bot community. Jagex undoubtedly offered him a full-time programming salary with benefits, just like all of the other programming jobs in the world. Jacmob's decision was between gambling his efforts into possibly repairing his broken company, or taking the option with paid vacations and a retirement pension. I, for one, don't blame him at all.

Unless we have the same thing that changes the obfuscation in every server update and auto-hook. We can't get it to work.

But what can we do now? Keep working on color, OCR, shape and related bots. OGL Hooked bots and so.

They have never stopped botting, they never will.

He made the right decision for himself, and yes he 'fucked over' tons of people, but in the end, you guys have to remember it's just a game.

 

Yes, Jacmod was hired by Jagex and yes he is a brilliant programmer. Before he joined Jagex and a week after the nuke he showed up to Runefest with a working version of RSbuddy and presented it to mods there. This is where he allegedly received a job with Jagex.

But botting isn't fucked. Where there is a community as large as Runescape's there will always be an underground. Plus there is money in the botting business and that tends to be a great motivating factor. Also when it comes down to it BCEL and ASM methods are employed by veteran reverse engineers and there are literally limitless ways of hijacking the RS client. Jagex has essentially done an excellent job in preventing information to be grabbed by enhancing obfuscation methods where instead of object Ids being stored in classes has stuck them in a giant array which is further randomized by some if statement (most likely I'm guessing on this one) which argues the position of these Ids in the array on runtime...This is to say they can't really fuck up botting more than it is now...

Hopefully with opengl hooking advanced bots will be able to resurface...in the mean time it would be great if people stopped bitching about color bots because seriously scripting when all you have to go on is ocr font recognition, somewhat reliable color recognition, and bitmaps for rudimentary shape recognition (sorta) it's very difficult to compete with the old bots.

Pitty bots? SRL was around far, far before your precious push-to-play java bots. Gone/dead? We never left...

Hes an asshole but life is life he made money outa rsbuddy and plus hes even making more money from JaGeX lol..

 

good luck. He is a smart guy. He managed to build a client that would get around jagex last antiban system.

 

Wouldn't get too overconfident, simba is really glitchy, found that out when I went to Sorc Garden, and they were all stood in a corner, literally a huge group of them. Some weren't even moving halfway around summer garden.

 

They may not ever stop it, but damn they know how to fuck it over. Changing colour of items etc just to piss them off. I swear herbs are changing colour very slightly....

 

I would of done the same thing.

 

Completely agree, with the benefits provided to him by the actual company, and the surely advanced salary, I would have taken the job myself as well. He made a very smart business move for himself.
