Is doing poorly in this class the end of the world?

I'm in my first year of university, and honestly, cannot be fucked to study hard for my math exam tomorrow. It's only my math, it's not like I'm a lazy student, I just don't see the point when it's not applied to anything like physics or programming. I'm doing well in the class without the exam (approx. 85-86% average from all my assignments, tests, etc), and don't think I'll pull anything higher than a 70% on the exam.

In all my other classes, I'm getting like 85%-100% averages, so this one class shouldn't bring me down too much. Anyway, what I'm asking is is this anything like highschool where losing 10-20% off a final mark was a huge deal? I'm not going to fail, but I also don't want this one class to affect any future employment opportunities once I'm finished school. For the record this is my only math class without application throughout my entire program. Later on it's stuff I like, like physics and programming

Whenever people say "I can't be bothered study", etc and they go watch a movie instead I can't help but wonder. Every grade matters especially math. It's critical thinking and problem solving skills. That 10% is what separates hundreds of class ranks as well. As much as you hate it, I'd suggest studying.

Generally people think back to their school years and wish they had done better on their exams. Perhaps you should muster a tiny bit of study, even if you are so pessimistic about it

 

Doing poorly in class isn't the end all. Having the attitude of tomorrow not today is.

 

I wouldn't recommend it. I definitely failed my Government class.

No, it certainly isn't the end of the world. It is, however, as important as you dictate it to be. I would suggest studying. Either way, just do your best.

 

You are very silly in my opinion..you're teaching yourself a notoriously bad habit which will affect you throughout your studies. If I were you, i'd be hitting the books.

I didn't study much for my math exam a few days ago, and I totally regret it. I might even have to repeat the class again to get a better grade so I can remain listed on the program I am registered in for next year.

I strongly dislike math most of the time (unless it is directly applicable to the other things I am learning, like you said), but its also not like I tried really hard and unfortunately, am going to get a poor grade. I hardly went to class, only did the bare minimum of assignments/tests that were mandatory, and only spent like 2 days studying for my final that was worth half my mark.

Like I said, I regret it totally, and I feel like a complete idiot for wasting a semester of MY time, aswell as my teacher's. I will likely still pass the course, but like I said I will probably end up retaking it so I can actually strive to get a good grade. I would put a little more effort into it if I were you.. it will be worth it in the long run

 

Everyone needs Maths these days, I've decided to re-take it at College. People look at Maths more than College when you apply for a job.

 

Math counts as part of your major GPA so you can't even put both your major and overall GPAs on a resume to make yourself look better. Study for it man. All grades, no matter how stupid the class are important, especially if they are a part of your major.

I wish I had studied just a little bit harder for my math classes. Missed out on a great scholarship. Pretty much everyone I know wishes they had studied harder

 

It doesn't really matter what your GPA is unless you plan on doing any further education than undergrad. You only need to get decent GPA up until your final stage in education

Let's assume you want to go for a MD, I would try as hard as I can all the way to undergrad. Then once I am able to get into MD, all I need to do is just get by because in reality, it doesn't matter at that point. A 50% avg doctor compared to a 99% avg doctor is...... still a doctor
