    Becoming a Man

For some of us, it may have already happened. For others it could be happening now, and some of you may not have given it the slightest thought, but becoming a man is eventually going to happen to all of us.

Diversity is an amazing thing, and it's been a part of life that I have looked more into and given thought on for quite a while now. I often wonder, "Why am I the way I am, when everyone else is so extremely different?" All of the people that I know well have completely different personalities, philosophies and characteristics that make them unique.

I mention diversity because my main point of making this thread is to discuss what becoming a man means to you.

As for myself, I believe that a man is a decision maker, his main priority in life is himself, he's confident, faces his fears, expresses love first, accepts responsibility for his relations and moves on, and honors others as if they were gods.

EDIT: I encourage you to share stories of the road to manhood that you've experienced firsthand.

    Becoming a Man

In my opinion I believe that a man is someone who accepts consequences followed by his actions, willing to do whatever it is that he believes is right, selfless and courageous, honourable and respectful.

You seem to hit the nail on the head. A big part that a lot of people have yet to get is the respect. You can tell those who have it and those who don't, especially in college kids.

    Becoming a Man

I think a huge part of becoming a man is just maturing as an individual, learning to accept other people for their differences and their flaws, while learning to recognize your own. Learning respect, compassion, empathy, responsibility, how to make difficult decisions and how to solve problems. Also becoming more confident in yourself, your abilities, and your direction in life, aswell as becoming independent.

These are all qualities that help shape you as a person, and prepare you for building a family and providing and protecting them, aswell as passing on your wisdom and the things you have learned to your children so that they can grow up to be good men and women too.

Being a man is definitely much more than just sprouting a few hairs on your balls and your ass, and having to shave regularly. The transition from adolesence to manhood is a complicated, lengthy, gradual process that happens over the course of many years as you live, love, and learn. Manhood comes from experience, in combination with a little help from nature ;)

I am 20 years old now and although I am closer to being a true man than ever before, I still have much to learn and lots of growing to do. But - just the fact alone that I can recognize that shows me that I have already matured and come a long way from where I once was, an arrogant, sometimes ignorant teenager who thought I was wise beyond my years.

I'm nearly 18, but when I'm 19 I'll be called to serve a mormon mission. They say "you leave as a boy and return as a man". So yeah, I'm depending on that.

I wouldn't say becoming a man has much to do with age, it's all about maturity if you ask me. However, finding a teenage boy who can deal with his problems, accept responsibility, be respectful, and have common sense is pretty hard.

You become a man when you stop living with your parents and start earning the money by yourself.

I think to me, becoming a man happens when you start making decisions that no longer are made with your best interests, but when your decisions are made in the best interests of those you love and care about the most.

Wow, I didn't know you were a mormon. What is the exact name of the church you are with? I am curious because my mom is mormon aswell and I have met many of the young men who serve as missionaries. They come to my parent's house once in awhile just to literally drop in and say hello to our whole family, just because they know my mom haha. Nice people though :)

And thankyou very much! I really appreciate that :)

I often feel that some of my responses to topics like this are much too long, but I can't help it. When a good topic comes up it really gets me going sometimes, and I just feel that I have so much to say :p It means alot that you liked what I wrote though, I really appreciate that!

To me it's about becoming independent; taking total responsibility for yourself and your actions.

What Defines Manhood? some would say having sex, testicals drop, facial hair.

    Becoming a Man

    Manhood by definition is;

    1. The state or period of being a man rather than a child.
    2. Men, esp. those of a country, regarded collectively.
