Using Chatzilla Full Tutorial

Hey do you use Mozilla Firefox? If you do, there's a great add-on/extension called chatzilla! It's a clean, easy to use and highly extensible Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client. It's extremely easy to use whether or not you have experience with IRC.

First off, if you don't have it already, I recommend you download Firefox. It's a much faster, safer, and customizable web browser than it's rival Internet Explorer.

Once you have it downloaded, download the chatzilla add-on.

Add to Firefox, and then click Install Now.
After installing you will need to restart Firefox for the add-on to be installed, and possibly another for the add-on to be enabled.

Once you have it installed and enabled, click tools and chatzilla.

Chatzilla will open up, and once you connect using irc.sythe.org as a server, the same IRC commands apply as if you were using any other client.

Some people have been required to type "/server irc.sythe.org"


Your first time connecting, you should see this:

You will need to choose a nick, or the name that will be displayed when you speak. To do this, simply type /nick YOURNICK. Ex: /nick Eric. You will need to pick a unregistered nick to speak in most channels. If you nick you have chosen is taken already, you will see this message:

Once you choose a nick that isn't taken, you'll have to register. To Register on the IRC, type /msg NickServ register yourpasswordhere YOUREMAILHERE. Then you'll be given a confirmation code in your e-mail, so put a valid e-mail. Then type that in the server box, and you'll be ready.

Some Cool Things To Do With Chatzilla
To make things easier for yourself when you connect in the future, click preferences.


The following settings in the next few images should be selected.


The following setting makes it so much easier for you. If you enable this in combination with the first, all you'll have to do it click chatzilla in tools, and it will automatically connect to the server & identify!

This last setting, if used with the first two, will allow you to automatically connect to the server, automatically identify, and then automatically join the channels you choose.


In our chat rooms, you can chat in real time with other members of Sythe. It's a great way of making new friends, and a great way to get known. I'll give you a brief list of some channels you should join to get started.

#Sythe - The main IRC channel for Sythe.org. Here's where most of the "action" happens.
#Eliteswitch - IRC Channel for Covey's client, Eliteswitch. Frequented by a steady flow of Runescape players, so if you play, you'd want to join.
#SFA - Shredderbeam's channel. Topic for #sfa is “Anything that can be intelligently debated.”
#Market - Buy/sell accounts, memberships, and gold. This channel is relatively new, so we're still looking to get it active.

Good guide, just wanted to correct one thing, when you connect to a server, you have it just type "irc.server.com", when actually you have to type "/server irc.server.com".

Other than that, very nice.

It is required that you change the ident on chatzilla.

 

Yeah, can you tell me how? Cfrey I think is still figuring it out, idk about resident or frag.. Chatzilla is a lot better imo.
