    Hey,

I'm looking at buying a laptop for University, but have no clue on what to get. >_<

I'm going to study computer science.

Looking for something that has a battery life of about 7 hours+
    And can compile code.
Not looking to play any heavy graphical games.

So far I've looked at the Asus Zenbook, but have had mixed feelings after looking at a few reviews.

I've glanced at apple, although I'm not a really a apple fanboy and the price for what you get seems extravagant.

Any suggestions/past experiences would be great! ^_^

Macbook Pro is your best bet, in my opinion. They are very fast and can program on it easily.
Also I suggest using Linux if you're getting into a computer science major. It can be VERY beneficial.

    Top is about £1,000

Whilst I like the the look of the Macbook Pro, the price for what you get just doesn't seem worth it to me. But the battery life looks godly!

I'll have a look into Linux also.

I highly recommend asus myself, I think a zenbook would be good. Thin, light, good battery, better than hd display, ssd, etc.

Just make sure to back everything up if you're going to have ssd's in raid 0.

ThinkPad. it's the only laptop approved to be used on a space station

plus if you had a macbook in a comp sci major all the elitist neckbeards would call you a brandfag

Whoa depends on the school I guess. I'm in comp sci and fukkin everyone has a Mac. It's sickening. Our entire degree is based around Unix though so I suppose it's acceptable considering Mac uses a Unix frame.

As for you OP, just google "best battery life 2015" and you'll get the results you're looking for.

If its just for uni work i would suggest a chromebook its like $300 and you can save the rest of the cash.

You don't need anything crazy to code. As long as the computer is decent you'll be fine. You can get a good PC for like $400-$500. If you want a decent mac it'll be like $1000.

I suggest Dell because they're made well and have great customer support and warranties. Amazon usually has the best PC prices. This one looks like a good deal. $470 (other amazon seller) i5 8GB RAM

i would suggest asus ultra book or mac book ultra book. thinkpad is great but heavy

but honestly, 7 hour battery life varies on what you do. carry extra battery pick and charger with you at school

i don't suggest dell, their laptop build quality went down to shit and customer service. ( d620 owner)

    Website seems very inaccurate

top brands i consider is asus/apple/lenovo

they're up there in terms of reliability and good support but the other three brands i didn't mention, toshiba/dell/hp. absolute shit.

for all we know, dell could have paid that website to be ranked #2 who knows.

It's a credible source. They're a magazine as well. They did research and explained their reasoning which you can see if you click full report. It's naive to think dell paid them.

From my experience this chart is very accurate. I sent out my moms Asus whose hard drive broke within the first year of use. I called them and sent it out to them, and they told me I didn't have a warrenty and they wouldn't fix it, even though the guy I called said it would be covered.

Conversely, my friends dell hard drive broke. All he had to do was call them and they mailed him a new hard drive. Which saved him like 2 weeks. Also dell has a great support website. You can easily find drives by looking up the computers service tag.

Apple is a good brand, but they're just expensive. Dell and HP sell the most laptops so they must be doing something right.

My dell hard drive still work stil this day (80gb hdd) on d620.

as for dell, i still don't trust that brand. only asus/apple. lots of websites will have different rankings though, take a look here below link

Just got my Lenovo Y40-80 in the mail yesterday. This thing's a beast, and got it for under 1k. If you're in the US I think they're selling for as low as like 600 which is one hell of a steal. I'm also in comp sci. This thing is light, 14" HD 1920x1080 screen, and just as thin as the ultrabooks some of my friends have (but is classified as a gaming laptop). I recommend it if you haven't chosen already.
