SMS verification

Maybe some of high tier donors should have available option of SMS login verification ? I think it would prevent alot of scams/hackings. If not for high donors, maybe for those who would be able to cover costs of this kind of service ?

I think any sort of secondary auth system would be a great addition.

Most cell phone carriers have an email domain that allows you to send an email to a cell number that will be coverted to a text message. I'm sure Mathew could whip up a php script pretty quickly to send out codes. Don't know how hard it would be to add in the auth to the login system but seeing the work Mathews done with mTweaks I'm sure he could figure out a solution.

 

It's been discussed 1000 times. Would cost $3/month/user

 

Why dont we introduce it then ? Noone would be forced to purchase it.

Costs close to nothing / month.

 

If it is considered, I think it would be absolutely perfect for staff members, we have the most trust on the site and for one of us to be hacked would be catastrophic. But it could be introduced to high donors too if the cost is right I guess

 

Well if people want the extra security it should be open to anyone as long as they pay what ever it costs.

 

I support this as well the more security the better to be honest.

 

Nice suggestion honestly. They could have a small sign under their username as well, saying they have verified themselves.

I think just green dick is not enough. It can mean many things. Maybe something like green tick + Approved or verified would be better ?

 

I think a minirank should suffice. People can still scam regardless of whether their phone is verified and I wouldn't want it to be an ultimate symbol of trust.

 

Yeah thats right. If people donate $200 just to scam that means they wont mind another $3 for more potential victims. We need to think again about it. If people dont see our recovery emails then why would they need to see that we verified our phone numbers. Atleast noone would have explanation in disputes like '' I was hacked ''

People who believe a donor is trusted are stupid. Yes it's a contributing factor to someones trust. But to say someone is trusted simply because they have donated some money would be idiotic. Staff are trusted people before they become staff, as the admins must pick people who wont take advantage of their rank and their powers.

Although I am strongly for it for staff members it's mainly because if someone were to gain access to staff account they could create a shit storm. However if they gained access of a normal account a hell of a lot less damage could be done.
The only reason I'd support it for high donors is because they have donated enough to pay SMS verification and extra protection on your account would be a very nice reason to actually donate more anyway.

 

However if it costs $3/month/user it would need to decrease donors ranks, for example if someone donated $100, then after 30months those $100 will be consumed by costs of this service, leaving Sythe without profit.
I think I'm going to support it just for an additional fee of $3/month/user instead of high donors
