Homework Help

Either enforce the no payments rule, or remove it.

All of the more recent threads are offering payment for help on their homework. I don't know how official the rule was, seeing as it's added in small font text next to an asterisk at the bottom of the post, but it still seems that everyone requesting help is in violation of this rule.

Oh snap! I didn't read the stickies for that section. I feel retarded right now, I'm not going to lie, but I did ask for help and I did say I was going to pay. :s

 

I had this in mind today when I glanced through the section and I was wondering what happened to that rule! When I posted in a thread offering 25m rsgp, I said I would do them for free since I feel that the help shouldn't be payed for.

 

Yeah, it would be nice to get free homework help, I would rather not like to pay 5m to get help with geometry.

 

I completely agree with you Determinate. I feel like people are way too lax about this rule. Personally I had never thought to report it, however I will be sure to start now. I think that the problem is not that it is not being enforced, rather people failing to recognize the rule and report it. I believe that if more attention were brought to this rule, such as an individual sticky topic that more users would be likely to stop offering a reward and start reporting threads that do.

However another solution that I see would just to remove it altogether. However I do not really approve of this because I feel like homework assistance is not a service that people should pay users for. I helped a user with a few homework questions today, I feel like it is much more rewarding to give someone knowledge without payment or reward instead of doing it for the sole intent of gaining money. After all it is the Community Support section, this is not a section where people should be gaining money. It is a section where users can offer support.

 

I say remove the rule, because people who want to offer to pay for help can. People can volunteer if they want, I mean if the user wishes to pay why force them not to? I mean I don't mind answering some simple questions and things like that but if people are demanding huge assignments done in a quick turn around then I feel as if monetary compensation is needed. That is just me though.

 

Remove the rule in my opinion.

 

It basically comes down to an issue of personal morals or ethics.

If the rule is removed, you are allowing people to skip school and not pay attention in classes, safe in the knowledge that they will be able to pay someone to finish their assignments for them and get a halfway decent grade.

If the rule is enforced, Homework Help forum activity goes down by a lot, as much fewer people will be offering their assistance.

So basically, you are either forcing people to pay more attention at school, or allowing them to slack. The impact of this decision may not be very significant on a grand scale, but I feel that it is still important in the context of such things.



For the record, I have helped numerous people with their homework and post there quite frequently. I have never been paid for my services.

 

Paying for it is against the rules, however if they simply said at the end of their thread "you may get a donation for helping" it would still entice people to help. Personally I think that they should all help for free anyway, but if people are in a rush to get help then they resort to offering cash, which people unfortunately take off their hands.

 

No motivation for someone to help you. With payment, you have people that come with some incentive to help you out.

Otherwise, sorry to say, but not everyone is going to give up a bit of their time for free to help you with "homework". I personally just saw the stickies now too =/ Saw alot of others do it without them having any problems so thought it was allowed (naturally).

Donation isn't going to work because, once they add you, I can garantee they'll be some discussion on price for helping.

 

I agree completely, and on top of that I do not even see how you can argue that the rule should be removed. The Homework help section is sub-forum of the Community Support forum. The Community Support section is where users go to offer SUPPORT and help. They should be banned from that section if they do not intend on helping and are only seeking payment, because that means their only motive for browsing there is to gain a personal advantage. So I propose we simply perm ban anyone in that section requesting or taking payment.

 

I don't think that they should get a perm ban, but i definitely agree that they should receive an infraction.
Homework help shouldn't be a section where money is involved.

I was proposing that the perm ban would only apply to the Community Support Section. I say this because if anything is looking to charge or receive payment in that section they are probably there on intent of personal gain and not the true purpose of the section, which is Community Support.

 

I do not support payment being given for these. I urge everybody to report these posts, and I will be handing out infractions liberally in this section. Asking for help shows, more or less, that you are genuinely interested in learning about your studies. Asking for paid help just means you're being lazy.

 

Make a different section for paid "help". A lot of the posts are about people wanting papers written for them and such, and that should be allowed. It's a win win, people want a paper written and don't mind offering for it, and others want what he is offering and don't mind writing the paper.

Also, if a different forum was specifically for this, it would allow that section to be what it is meant to be for, actual help on something, and not doing it for them.

And what Kero said, it is about the person being lazy, but so are a lot of things on Sythe, lol.

 

I don't really give half of a fuck if someone wants to cheat an online game. However, I'm really saddened to see anybody cheating their education. It's a lot more valuable than these particular students presently think, and I'm sure they will regret the decision to slack off in the future.

People will be lazy and cheat even without us sponsoring it, but that still doesn't mean I'm okay with it.

 

Yeah it really just comes down to morals and personal opinions, the mods+ should all take a poll and see whats what.

As currently, it happens there a lot, so I guess something should be decided because currently it just seems like people don't really care because that forum is hardly modded.
