Is this guy still behind bars? I remember when this was all over the news back a few years back. I support his releasing, the covering up of governmental actions impedes representative and responsible government, as government is not fully acting out the views of the people, and they are unable to be held responsible for their actions at the next election, as the voters are not always aware of these actions. This should have it's own thread in the SFA.

My hope would be that Obama would pardon him in the last few weeks of his Presidency but it won't happen. He's kind of an ass so I would hope that the next President does that.

I've been saying this forever..

 

While I do think it would have been better if the US government didn't do the things it did, and released a statement on them sooner, what Manning did could have jeopardized the security of many people, especially if the information contained material to really piss off insurgents. At times of war, although we're almost always at war, it may be necessary to hide information, and we don't have the rights to know absolutely everything that goes on in our government, because some classified information should stay classified.

tl;dr he knew what he was doing so he shouldn't expect to get out; however, it would be nice.
