Donator Perk

I think there should be a donor perk which allows you to turn off advertisements.
It would entice people to donate if they are frustrated by the advertisements (I for one hate accidentally clicking them).
Perhaps a $25+ donor can turn them off?

Ah yeah, but still even if something has been suggested before, it's still worth suggesting again as most of the approved suggestions had been suggested before.

 

I think this is a good idea but only if you donate a monthly amount. If you're a $5 donator, and you don't have ads, after several months, the site has a loss of revenue

 

This exactly. Although I'm not sure how that would be setup. Maybe a credit card or something that automatically gets charged? Really only way is if the person renews themselves which can be a pain.

 

Even if this was done, I would want it way higher than $25+ donator. Bear in mind adverts bring in a lot of revenue for the site.

 

Surely they don't make $25 from one person even over a period of say 3 years?

 

It's not really a problem for me; I rarely notice the ads anyway.
If sythe makes money from something I rarely notice, what's the problem?

This might just be me, but do others have problems with the ads?

 

I've spoken to people on IRC who hate the ads, I'm often on Sythe on my phone and when you're thumb is as big as your screen you often click the ads, which gets rather annoying.

 

Personally, I don't see the ads as very invasive. But I can sympathize with iPhone users, etc.

From a business point of view I'm just not sure if loss of ads would be enough incentive to donate large amounts, resulting in an inevitable loss of profit.
That's just how I see it.

 

You're not really losing anything.
I can't see ads making over $25 per person over a long period of time, so the donation will make more profit than ads, also the ad removal can be purely optional for users. It an extra perk and something extra may push more users into donating, even if it's something as small as no ads.

 

Yah, I see where you're coming from. It's hard to come to a position on the matter when you don't have the revenue stats.

Just don't see this as likely :/

 

Suggesting perks like this has been denied before.

I will also say I use my iPhone 90% of the time and it's basically the same as I see on pc. So ads don't bother me that much.
