Donation system needs change?

The donation system definitely needs some adapting, As a community I've never seen so many people willing to donate, but it has proven to actually be really difficult to do so, either the users who take donations are not online, do not respond etc etc... I understand that people are individuals spending their time offering this service, and i appreciate that, but is it really a service? Should you have to wait, and actually spend hours of your time, In order to give money and support your community? I think the system as it stands, puts a lot of people off of donating, just because, people trying to donate their own hard earned money to sythe shouldn't have to have a hard time doing so? A lot of people are just going to think "Well then i won't bother" I think an automated system would be the best, but if this isn't possible, then anyone offering a donation service should have a time slot in which they WILL be available to take donations, thanks if anyone reads this

 

I think that its only the first time that's a bit of a hassle, after that you can donate through paypal.

Think making it easier for first time donations wouldn't be a horrible idea though. Also ACCURATE gold prices would be nice for donations, I paid 22M for my $5 rank, which is a bit excessive considering sythe.org will only receive the intended $5.

 

yeah I get that it becomes easier, but a huge proportion of donators will only donate once, and it being so hard to do so is likely to deter them from doing so again! Plus the fact that it's so hard makes a lot of first time donators feel like sythe doesn't care about the fact that they are willing to give their own hard earned money to support the forum. It definitely deters people from donating

 

Like stated above you can donate via paypal which is instant anything else can take a few days, requirements to donate via paypal is 5 dollar donor, 100 posts, and 15 days being a member i believe. Then you won't need anyone else.

 

there are also a few people on here that will accept paypal to donate for you i think The Black Tux does this im not sure 100% but it does not hurt to ask.

Once you donate 5USD by another method and been a member for 15 days and 50 posts you can then donate by yourself on a automated PayPal method.

 

Matthew should really add a guideline or something in the donation centre for people who can't donate with PayPal yet. I've seen these threads of people asking why they can't donate via PP so often.

 

I understand that you can donate via paypal after you have already once, but is sythe simply relying on people who have already donated to donate again? Because my point is that for a lot of first time donators, It's such a complex system, and i'm sure sythe is losing out on donations because of it

 

Im guessing this is in response to me. Im sorry i cant be on 24/7 to take donations. I go to school 6:30-6:30 daily; which is why im most active on weekends

Nothing needs to change imo. Just be more patient.

 

I doubt he's losing out on much. If people really want to donate, they'll find a way to. It wouldn't be wise to accept PayPal donations from anyone has the risk of a chargeback would be too high.

 

haha, no it isn't actually, on the whole you've been very helpful, however i attempted to donate to a few others and had difficulty

I'm not saying it should be paypal, just perhaps there should be something more full time, And i think actually, a lot of people are detered from donating, if they feel like they are being nice, making an attempt to help there community etc, then they are met by a wall of difficulty, they are going to feel pretty disheartened and likely they will just give up

 

What would you change then, put out exactly what you want and then maybe Sythe can sort something out but just saying to automate it isn't a viable suggestion.

 

I'm not an expert on these things, but i personally think, people offering donation services should state a set time each day, maybe 1 or two hours, or even every other day when they will be there and will be ready for donations. I know it's a big commitment, but it would be a lot easier for people attempting to make a first time donation to know when they will be able to donate, It should after all be made as easy as possible. Sorry if this seems like a rant also, it really isn't just wanted to have an input as to what i think would help

 

Well, over the past month Matthew has given bonds to many new people to increase the numbers of people who can process donations. Of course we are only humans and not robots so can not be on all the time, If people are desperate to use PayPal for their first donation they can buy RSGP with PayPal from R2Pleasent and then give the RSGP to the many RSGP bond holders. Also Grave offers a service on his site and his site is always online with a agent at hand to process donations.

I've spoken with Matthew about making Paypal available for first time donors and he won't do it. Even just a few chargebacks can freeze the account and it isn't worth the hassle.

 

Have any chargebacks accrued already in the past? I'm curious. I've seen posts of banned members on disputes in the past stating they intend to chargeback their Sythe donation.

Also, wouldn't donating to the site possibly be considered a virtual service or item? Those types of transactions always result in the seller (or in this case Sythe AG) having the upper hand in the case. There must be some way to stop chargebacks.

 

I think if Matthew got a LR account for donations and implemented it could help. Anyone could donate via LR auto and then the balance can be simply sold for at least 100% via PP or more.

PP is a simple no-go, everyone hates to receive payments.
