Let's start a bilingual thread. Post your 2nd language, how you learnt it and your favourite memiest slang term in said language.　Normie monolinguals stay away

-If you took one two or three years of some random highschool option language five years ago, and the only thing you've retained is how to introduce yourself and say 'fuck'.

-If your parents are 2nd generation immigrants who sometimes throw in random words from their parents mother tongue but you can't actually speak the language to a native person.

-If you watch anime with subtitles and learn Japanese through youtube videos

I'll go first: After studying Mandarin in middleschool and highschool for a total of 5 years, I knew how close I was to fluency, so I took a gap year and went to China after graduation. If i hadn't, I'd probably have forgotten everything by now, it really solidified the language. I have the chinese proficiency certificate for level 3 which is reading, listening and understanding 600 words, and in January im going for level 4 which is 1200. My favourite memey thing in Chinese is 钓鱼岛是中国的你快滚日本鬼子. If you arent aware, there is a disputed territory （oil) between Japan and China, and this is just a patriotic way of saying the island belongs to China.

Portuguese; speak it to family; it's not a general slang term, but I thought it was hilarious when some PT person was mad at a receptionist who didn't speak PT, and told her to go plant potatoes (in PT), before storming off.

 

English is technically my second language, I went to elementary school not speaking any English but now it's better than my primary language (Arabic). My favorite slang term is "cus umak" which literally translates to "your mothers vagina" but it really means "fuck your mother" which is basically the worst curse word there is.

 

I actually know a little bit of Arabic, in 3rd grade a foreign exchange student came over and we became friends, he taught me a lot.
