Advertisements

Alright, I'm not sure if this is already planned, but why not have more than one advertisement on the header? You can make three spots, and list them in order based on how much it costs the advertiser. (First spot would cost more than second, etc.) To avoid people from being annoyed by a stack of ads, you could use an iframe. Basically have 1680 pixels wide of ads, and have resize to where the page is not stretched. Let's say a person is on a 1024 wide resolution, he would only see two of the ads and a portion of the other one. Just don't have them on top of eachother like RSBot. (I mean JESUS FUCK, they have like a skyscraper of ads) Speaking of skyscrapers, another possibility is having a 600 height skyscraper advertisement to the side of the forums with some small 'button' ads underneath it. There could be an option to hide the sidebar advertisements. Not sure how many people use Sythe mobile, but advertisements could be placed there too. (however it would make it load slower)

(edit) To encourage people not to hide the sidebar, there could be a small version of the User CP or something else that would be useful also included on the sidebar.

 

Or how about less ads (or at the very least keep the same amount we've always had) and remove the gold4rs ad (went there to sell an account, they're assholes).

 

They should add a shit ton for non registered and add a thing... Register for less ads.... Then they should still have more for registered, remove some for $5 donators and all of them for $25 donators. >_>.

Good idea, I was always wondering why they haven't done anything like that, but I couldn't explain it properly :embar:

 

If they took off ads they would make less money. Why would they ever do that? If you don't want to support the website then just install an advertisement blocker, but this is a suggestion to generate more revenue without bugging people as much as they actually could.

Sidebar can be hidden, and the settings will be saved with cookies so it will stay hidden if you don't want to see it. The other advertisements will take up no more space than they already do.

 

Sites with tons of advertisements like you want on sythe.org are the main reason I use an ad blocker. I don't want to be bombarded with spam and I know nobody else does either.

 

Please explain how this suggestion will negatively affect you, in detail. The header advertisements will resize to your browser window and will not take up any additional space height-wise. The sidebar can be permanently hidden.

 

I hate ads. It would drive me away if I didn't have ad blocker. I know people who avoid sites with too many ads altogether.

I will donate to this site if it wasn't such a pain in the behind, but don't add more ads!

 

I don't mind that ads at all, they lend a flare to the site, especially since they aren't too flashy and are advertising products that are actually related to the site.

 

@Richard. Why don't you sell some cheaper spots that only are for non registered people? That would encourage them to sign up and not bother all of our current members.... D:

the ads are all the way on the top anyways. I don't see why anyone is bothered by them anyways.

 

If you haven't noticed lately, the site is under funded as it is. I mean, if you want to cover the monthly costs then by all means.

Kind of ruins it for the whole community, don't you think? You ad-blocking is just going to force Sythe to add more banners.

 

Back in the day registered users did not get ads or am I thinking of another forum? I know most of your footer link people have pulled out...

I do think that giving no ads to higher level donators, maybe $25+ would be nice also... And it may encourage more people to donate which would more than pay for the small amount lost from the ads yes?

 

Actually, I don't think anything will be lost from the advertisements as long as they are purchased at a monthly rate. However it will affect the revenues by a small percentage on the Adbrite ads.

 

Sythe would get alot more popularity by adding Affiliates.
Why not just add them?

 

Unless we can get affiliated with Jagex, I don't think it can get anymore popular.
