Abusive Relationships are becoming more common and not just for adult couples, but for teens as well. I have experienced a few abusive relationships and these same questions always come to my mind.

  • How do you cross the line between abusive and argument?

  • Can words be abusive?

  • Most of the time in an abusive relationship, the guy is the abusive one. Does the sense of abusive change it the female is abusive? Or what if the couple is homosexual?

  • Would you stay in a abusive relationship if you really loved the person?

anyone who lets someone abuse them verbally, is probably going to end up committing suicide, because they have no backbone whatsoever.

I beat my wife when I come home from work drunk. I enjoy it, so that's all that matters, no?

Bro you're fucking twelve; you just made a thread on what types of yugioh card boxes you should buy.

And an abusive relationship starts when it gets physical.

Agreed, but words can hurt too. When you start cursing and shouting the b-word and dropping the f bomb at your husband/wife, you're putting the relationship at risk

What about words that put the other person down?
Like a man telling a woman that she is fat and worthless and will never live up to anything and that if she leaves him she wont have any luck finding anyone else that will take care of her?

Would that not be considered abusive? It could lead to suicide even.

Yeah, words in general hurt. Cursing, name-calling, rumors are just examples of verbal abuse in a relationship

Cursing and name-calling aren't really big factors in abuse. Tons of people curse at each other and call each other names.

And what about the "Would you stay in an abusive relationship if you really loved the person" question. No one has attempted to answer that one.

Some people need to harden up. Sometimes it's harder than that though. For example my mum had an alcoholic boyfriend and he'd just randomly come to our house and start being drunk on our front stairs. We called the cops when he did that ;). But it's not a funny issue. Many people are in spots they can't get out of and are getting mistreated by their partner. Just leave them if it's so bad. Or cosh them when they're asleep.. na.

It's not that simple.

These people who are being abused most of the time feel that it's their fault for not being good enough. Plus they love their partner and they convince themselves that their partner is doing these things because he loves them.

If my girlfriend even tried to hit me with the intent to hurt me, she would get a nice surprise.

I treat her nice, she treats me nice.

The second a woman pulls a knife, or gun, she becomes a man. This means it's an all-out beating.

You got it backwards. The second a man pulls a knife or a gun, he becomes a pussy.

On topic though:
If I were in an abusive relationship, I'd throw her out head first.

The problem is that the weak partner often gets extremely low self-esteem from the abuse, and after a while are too afraid to break it off.

If I really loved the person I'd stay in it, but I don't see myself loving someone who does that. So I guess it's kind of a "yes I would, but no it wouldn't happen."

Always carry some mace with you, bitch (man or woman) tries to hit you, mace; gf nigga.

My father hit my mother once, i was around 2-3 so i don't exactly remember. After that he never touched her again. I have a bad temper but i've never hit any women before, hasn't even crossed my mind and i get into a lot of fights with my girlfriend.

Abusive is when you do something that really only hurts the other person, argumental is about a decision that has to be made between a couple.

Words can be very abusive, and can sometimes hurt more than physical or sexual abuse.

I dont know if i would say that a guy is often the abuser. Girls more often use verbal abuse (eg. name calling/blackmail/threats) so they can cover it up easier by just lieing and saying that they didnt say it.

I would not stay in an abusive relationship even if i loved the person. If a person loves me, then they would not abuse me(although i have never been in an abusive relationship, so i am not talking out of experience.)

I believe that a relationship only gets abusive when both parties are still together when they know they will not get anywhere. This usually leads to hitting and the more physical forms of abuse. Verbal abuse in my mind is a contradiction, especially with how much people put each other down in today's society.
