Why do some people drink alone ?

I'm actually just wondering, I just wanna get opinions etc.
Not like a single beer with a meal, but like way past tipsy more towards drunk by themselves =/ ?

 

To get the buzz and sometimes to ease pain. The only reason I would drink alone is if im bored and wanted a buzz.

 

It depends what you consider "drinking". Having a beer or two after a long day for some helps them release some stress. Some people drink a couple beers or alcoholic beverages because they like the test.

 

A lot of people that suffer with depression drink alone, they're 'drowning their sorrows' Like you'd see in a movie after a couple's just broken up, and the guy or girl would go to a bar and 'drown their sorrows'

 

Oh, that's still a bit odd to me, idk why, drinking to me is incredibly boring without people there -.-

 

How is it so hard to understand? You are obviously not old enough to drink. There is nothing wrong at all with drinking a few beers or glasses of wine by yourself. Plenty of people do it and it's very normal. Doesn't mean you have to get completely wasted. The effects of alcohol feels good and a lot of people really like the taste of it also, so why not drink a little when you're just sitting around with nothing to do? It's not going to hurt you as long as you can control your drinking. And to everyone who thinks people who drink alone do it because they're depressed is very ignorant.

 

Somewhat. I like to romanticize the way disgruntled people handle themselves in movies, wandering lonesomely down a narrow street, bottle of whiskey in hand. There have been few times where i drank by myself, usually when im overwhelmed with everything, and considerably more introverted than most nights.

 

I prefer to drink alone tbh...when I drink with people they annoy the shit out of me (even more then usual)..When I drink, I drink to get drunk...simple as that....I don't drink much though...I'd rather get high...

The longer you've been drinking alcohol the more you crave it. Just like any drug.

 

This as well lol. It just makes you feel good and it's legal why the hell wouldn't people do it? It's the same thing as asking why do people smoke cigarettes by themselves (almost)

^ This pretty much sums it up. Drinking while depressed will only make you more depressed, as it is a depressant.

I drink alone when I get bored sometimes, though I still usually talk to people. I'll go on Runescape after I've been drinking and talk to friends, or get on skype or something like that. Just being alone is fine too, just gives you some time to yourself where you can relax and enjoy the simple things.

 

I started making wine inspired by this thread. Wish I had it now, it takes four days to ferment .
For kids: Alcohol is a wonder juice that makes you feel great, grows your ego, gets you laid and eases the pain. Nothing wrong about getting drunk few times a week. Or more.

 

Well, I love to drink with people, but sometimes I'm just sitting at home bored and if there's beer in the fridge, why not use it to liven up the night a bit? It's not like I sit in the corner in the fetal position and drink...

 

I prefer to drink alone, nightclubs are over priced, noisy, cramped and non smoking.

Seriously, there is nothing better than a breaking bad marathon or an all nighter on dayz with some scotch and cokes.

 

I have a tendency to go in and out of depression. I can spend days, weeks or months at a time completely happy, but eventually I swing the other way and feel overwhelmed, lost, sometimes alone and existentially surreal.

During the former mindset, I sometimes drink alone because I have appreciation for good wines, craft beers, aged scotch and various liqueurs. You don't have to get drunk to enjoy these things. Hell, you don't even have to get drunk with friends. A little alcohol will loosen your inhibitions and make lots of activities, be it alone or not, a lot more enjoyable.

During the latter mindset, I waste a lot of expensive alcohol that I otherwise enjoy in moderation because it makes me feel numb, which is a far better feeling than not understanding how or why you feel the way you do. It does occur to me that this is probably the result of psychological illness, I just can't be fucked to do anything about it. Too much to do, too much to learn.

I drink alone if i've had a long day and fancy a beer or two, plus I enjoy the taste.

 

I enjoy a nice crown and coke.
