"Transgender" = mentally ill

Well first off, no one has claimed or announced they have won this meaningless debate over symbolism. Secondly, you're doing the same thing you're seemingly irate over. Lastly, just because you think the term gender is stupid, doesn't give validation to your opinion. I could get into the list of non-binary genders, but your brain might explode, as it probably does regularly, just from a glance at the way you type. If you want to discuss the topic at hand, I'll be glad to reply.

 

Please do tell me how we benefit from knowing a person's gender. Sex, weight, race etc are very useful in medicine for example. I just don't see a need for knowing someone's gender.

 

Gender and sex are interchangeable for the most part, at least in regards to this bathroom situation. There are only two genders in this instance, male and female.

You're basically asking, "How do we benefit from knowing a person's sex?".

The subject hasn't changed. This thread is about allowing transgenders to use whichever bathroom they feel they most identify with. Read the original post of this thread and you'd understand. It's funny because you were the one who was irate about this thread going off topic when it actually hasn't.

To branch off that, gender refers to constructed roles, behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women.

 

For me gender is basicly a pile of horseshit. I asked you, what do we benefit from knowing a person's gender. If you don't know then say so. Stop beating around the bush and answer the question. I argue that sex is enough for bathrooms and everything else that's related to the sexes.

 

The question itself is weird and somewhat of a conundrum. If you know a person's sex, what benefit is there to knowing their gender? Gender is pretty much self-identification, it has no biological purpose as I've said repeatedly, it's more superficial in comparison to sex. Gender roles do play a significant part in today's society however.

 

Why not call them sex roles? Sounds about right and gets things done. Gender just confuses the shit out of people and has no real value. A better way to say it is that I have not read or heard any arguments to why we need all these genders other than to sue people for not using the correct gender pronouns (which is fucking insane).

Why can't sex refer to a social construct? Pretty sure I have read about studies made on newborns where scientist claim that the differences between sexes kick it without outer influence.

 

Absolutely nothing about this is symbolic. It is strictly practical - real Male and Female bathrooms.

There's no reason for bathrooms to be separated by social constructs. I provided the reason bathrooms are separated by sex, and you agreed. So I don't know why you keep using this term "Social construct" to decide how bathrooms are separated since they are separated by the biological construct of sex.

They don't play any part in bathrooms. Those are sex segregated, not gender segregated, because there is no reason to have bathrooms segregated by self identification.

I think this thread has clearly taken a turn that was unintended in my opinion. The OP posted a link to an article where the Doctor depicted transgenders as mentally ill.... Instead everyone is talking about bathroom rights...

Clearly the focus of the entire post OP made was regarding the article.... It's even in the title and i bet neither of you even clicked on the article.

 

Public bathrooms play a huge role in the whole trans movement/discussion so it's more than justified to discuss it. I'd argue that it's the main issue that "trans" people have atm.

I think it's completely fucking madness to appease this bull-shit. I dont give two fucks what you identify yourself as. If you started with a penis then use the fucking men's room. Ill give you guys a true life example. One of my best friends brother is gay/transgender. He moved to California and started doing drag shows. My buddies family is ok with it and even proud of him to some degree I believe. The problem only occurred when Anthony's brother came back home. In celebration they all went out to eat. (whole family, granny included) The grandma decides she needs to use the restroom and Anthony's brother goes with her. In shock they watched as he walked into the women's restroom right behind the granny... How in the fuck is that okay? How is a man supposed to watch his older brother take a piss with his grandma? It goes against nature. Needless to say a huge fight erupted and Anthony broke his brothers nose. I personally dont think it's okay for men to use women's bathrooms or vice versa. You can dress like a woman, chop your dick off and, suck dick. Just stay the fuck out of the women's bathroom. Some how I blame this on the Kardashians and what they turned Bruce Jenner into. Giving a world class MALE athlete the woman of the year award. Way to go America...

 

Transgender is totally a mental illness. I have no hatred towards gays or anything of the such I just think it's a bit retarded to go full force and throw in a transgender restroom.. I mean come on dude. I think the bathrooms should be labeled "Penis" "Vagina"
