    So As It Turns Out

Turns out running my portfolio of sites has had a unforeseen consequence:

I'm nearly legally blind at 18.

Just returned from the Eye Doctor for the first time in 5 years, my vision is 1/10 what it was 5 years ago, they informed me that I was nearly legally blind and if I got 1 line closer I wouldn't be able to drive at all.

I dislike posting my personal information here, but I thought since many people here on sythe are in the same boat- No matter what you make- We are all evidently paying for it long-term.

Unfournately it seems the damage cannot be undone, my only choices are glasses for the rest of my life or surgery.

Quite the depressing turnout I'll be honest, I was expecting to have moderate(not good) vision, but infact my eyes are about as poor as they could get.

    Make me feel better pls.

I personally know quite a few people who did lasik eye surgery and got like better vision then they ever had. Costly, but you aren't fked. Likely payment plans too so you don't have to take the hit up-front.

    Contacts are an option?

Doctors and technology are better every year. I'd wager no matter what you won't be stuck with less than ideal vision, just a matter of time.

They said it was from staring at a computer? Because many people (online poker players, university students, professional gamers) log many many hours staring at the computer so it may have been atleast partly genetics.

    My sister has perfect vision.

My mother is farsighted, my father is near sighted, neither occurred until they were over 40.

It wasent genetics, they told me my vision had deteriorated literally 10x since 5 years ago(before my computer and sites started).

I literally looked at the same chart I did 5 years ago from the same distance, and I could only read 10 ROWS OF LETTERS above what I could 5 years ago, I was literally 1 row from the very giant top letter.

The only cause I or they could think of is the repetive computer use led to my eyes being dialiated thus causing very sensitive eyes(I cant go into the sun w/o sunglasses), and damage due to strain/lack of blinking while being stimulated on a computer.

Sounds truly bad man. Luckily I've always been fortunate to have good eyesight. Even though I can't even count to 20 unless it's on my fingers.

Hopefully you can get some sort of surgery or something to help it?

You should consider LASIK or LASEK. I was -6.5 on both eyes, and I received treatment for only $600 per eye in Korea. It was definitely worth it.

I'm not sure about the prices in US, but I heard from a friend that it dropped down and is more affordable now. You should look into it if you can.

Don't think it's from computers man. I'm 24 and logged tens of thousands of hours on the net daily since I was 10 or so. Just get glasses bud.

Would Eye surgery work? Or is that not possible?

I swear my eyesight got better from sitting in front of computer all day. Went from rugby shaped eyeballs to regualy circular. That awks moment when they ask how long do you sit infront of a screen? And your like ehm all day :S

That's unfortunate, however I'm kind of confused. Your eyes are rekt because of starring at the computer screen? Because I've been starring at the computer screen for years, you know, since I was 7 playing RS, up till I was a teen in High School playing League and CSS/CS:GO and now University for assignments/study etc. My eyes are perfectly fine though, and I spend a lot of hours infront of the screen. My brothers the same, no issues regarding his eye sight.

I can relate to the sensitive eyes thing though, I can't see properly when the son is out because it hurts my eyes, same with wind, I get teary eyes with the smallest of breezes brushing past my eyes. Note that my brother doesn't have sensitive eyes though, despite being infront of the PC a lot.

Nothing in my family history indicates poor eye sight is something running in the family.

All I do is the computer, it's the ONLY thing I can think of or they could that could possibly be the result in my eye damage.

shit luck my man. This may be an unpopular idea to you, but maybe time to get a "adult" job and make those fuckers pay for your surgery lmao surgery would be your best choice i hear it's not that bad. The rehab is supposed to be not bad either. jesus i should maybe make myself an appointment see how shitty my eyes are too. Think wearing those gunnars or whatever might be a good idea for you? IDK if they even work or just bs marketing.

I feel like the chances of this are very slim though. Shit luck to your mom, but I have a feeling it's the same odds as not waking up from anethstesia.

It's not from looking at the computer or watching TV. It's a myth that parents used so their kids would stop watching TV and using the computer all day.

I just recently came back from the ocular doctor as well...I have astigmatism in both of my eyes, the right being worse than the left. Currently awaiting for glasses, as I cannot play around on the computer for more than 2 hours without a painful headache. I understand how you're upset, but hey, at least we weren't born blind and got to see some beautiful shit. It could be worse...Be grateful for the years of enjoyment you had, and to be expected after you get surgery/glasses. Best of luck
